Pay Rate:
 $19.66 - $29.49 per hour.
Not eligible for benefits.
The initial compensation for this position generally falls between $19.66 and $20.64, contingent upon relevant experience and qualifications.

Schedule:
Works on-call
Must be able to work day, evening, and weekend hours.

Job Summary: 

Performs a variety of general and public relations duties in the operation of the Adult or Children’s department of a full service library or at a variety of outreach sites; substitutes for information staff; may substitute at a variety of branches; performs other duties as assigned.

 

Essential Functions:

  1. Greets customers and responds to information, circulation, reference, and reader’s advisory requests using model reference and reader’s advisory behaviors.
  2. Maintains current knowledge of information resources and search tools to assist customers.
  3. Uses current knowledge of Library related technology to assist and instruct customers and perform basic troubleshooting.
  4. Analyzes customers’ questions to decide search strategy and uses appropriate information resources to meet customer needs.
  5. Processes customers’ requests for materials.
  6. Assists in the maintenance of the branch collection.
  7. May prepare and present programs, booktalks, and event activities both in the branch and at other locations such as schools, and special events.
  8. Registers customers for programs.
  9. Conducts library tours for various groups.
  10. Prepares library displays.
  11. Monitors and coordinates placement of miscellaneous materials.
  12. Communicates library policies and procedures to customers as appropriate.
  13. Manages multiple customers simultaneously while providing exemplary customer service.
  14. Performs duties of a Circulation Clerk when needed; issue library cards, use Point of Sale, collect overdue fines.
  15. Serve as librarian-in-charge as needed; responsibilities include but are not limited to opening and closing activities, resolving customer complaints, handling facility and security issues, and communicating necessary information to staff.
  16. May participate in meetings, teams/committees/workgroups, outreach activities and training opportunities, as appropriate.
  17. May act as Passport agent and process passport applications.
  18. Performs other duties as instructed and assigned.

Qualifications

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  1. Knowledge of the principles and practices of reference and reader’s advisory services.
  2. Current knowledge of information sources and search tools.
  3. Knowledge of CCPL policies, procedures, and guidelines.
  4. Ability to operate and demonstrate all relevant technologies.
  5. Ability to operate Library equipment.
  6. Ability to develop and present programs.
  7. Commitment to excellent internal and external customer service.
  8. Excellent communication skills.

 

 

 Education and Experience:

  1. Bachelor’s degree.
