Pay Rate:
$19.66 - $29.49 per hour.
Not eligible for benefits.
The initial compensation for this position generally falls between $19.66 and $20.64, contingent upon relevant experience and qualifications.

Schedule:
Works on-call
Must be able to work day, evening, and weekend hours.

Job Summary
Provides support at the customer service desk, assisting customers with in-branch and online services. With additional training, they may also lead programs as needed. Substitutes may be assigned to multiple branch locations based on operational needs.

Roles, Responsibilities, and Essential Functions

  • Provides exceptional customer service at the public service desk through reference, reader’s advisory, and circulation assistance in person and by phone.
  • Stays current on industry trends, emerging technologies, and library best practices to maintain informed, high-quality service delivery.
  • Assists in the maintenance of the branch collection.
  • May prepare and present programs.
  • Clearly communicates library policies and procedures to customers, ensuring a positive and supportive experience.
  • Maintains professional growth and development through participation in library teams, committees, outreach, and training activities.
  • Provides branch-specific support as needed.
  • Performs other duties as instructed and assigned.


Qualifications

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Thorough knowledge of all CCPL policies, procedures, and guidelines. 
  • Commitment to outstanding internal and external customer service.
  • Ability to use clear, professional communication to create and tailor instructions based on individual needs and experience.
  • Thorough knowledge of reader's advisory services. 
  • Ability to develop and present programs. 
  • Thorough and current knowledge of information sources and search tools. 
  • Knowledge of the principles and practices of collection development and maintenance. 
  • Familiar with relevant computer equipment and associated software applications.
  • Ability to act as a representative of the library to the public.  

Education and Experience
     Required Qualification

  • Bachelor’s degree


Physical and Environmental Conditions
Work typically requires light physical effort in the handling of light materials, boxes, or equipment. Work may occasionally demand strenuous effort in the handling of moderately heavy boxes or materials. Work may require sitting or standing for extended periods of time. Work may frequently require stooping and bending.

Work environment involves everyday risks or discomforts which require normal safety precautions typical of such places as offices, meeting and training rooms, and libraries, e.g., use of safe workplace practices with office equipment, avoidance of trips and falls, observance of fire regulations, and/or working in moderate outdoor weather conditions.
