The initial compensation for this position generally falls between $45,825.00 and $48,116.25, contingent upon relevant experience and qualifications.
Schedule:
37.5 hours per week
Must be able to work day, evening, and weekend hours.
Must be willing to receive US Department of State Passport Acceptance Agent Training within 90 days & actively participate in passport services.

Job Summary:
Provides a variety of public information and programming services to customers in the branch; maintains portion of branch collection materials, creates schedules for the information staff, supervises the work of Library Associate substitutes; coordinates branch volunteer program; works under general supervision; performs other duties as assigned.
Essential Functions:
- Supervises, schedules, trains, coaches, and evaluates the work of assigned staff.
- Selects, processes, and schedules interviews for Library Associate Substitute applicants using hiring software; interviews and provides hiring recommendation to Human Resources.
- Reviews and approves timesheets of assigned staff.
- Serves as branch coordinator of volunteers; may supervise volunteers.
- Greets customers and responds to information, reference, and reader’s advisory requests using model reference and reader’s advisory behaviors.
- Maintains current knowledge of reference materials and search tools to assist customers.
- Uses current knowledge of Library related technology to assist and instruct customers and perform basic troubleshooting.
- Analyzes customers’ questions to decide search strategy and uses appropriate resources to meet customer needs.
- Processes customers’ requests for materials.
- Weeds, replaces, and adds materials to adult collections as directed and according to branch and system guidelines, suggests additions to collection area.
- Develops, prepares, presents, and evaluates programming themes and ideas and submits to department head for approval.
- Registers customers for programs.
- Prepares and presents programs, booktalks, and event activities both in the branch and at other locations such as schools, and special events.
- Conducts library tours to various groups.
- Creates and/or assists with the creation of library displays.
- Monitors and coordinates placement of miscellaneous materials.
- Communicates library policies and procedures to customers as appropriate.
- Manages multiple customers simultaneously while providing exemplary customer service.
- Serves as librarian-in-charge; responsibilities include but are not limited to opening and closing activities, resolving customer complaints, and communicating necessary information to staff; enforces Library behavior guidelines and evicts customers, as appropriate.
- Participates in meetings, teams/committees/workgroups, outreach activities and training opportunities, as appropriate.
- Performs basic circulation duties.
- May act as Passport agent and process passport applications.
- Performs other duties as instructed and assigned.
QualificationsRequired Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Ability to schedule, supervise, assign, train, and evaluate the work of others.
- Ability to maintain Maryland Library Associate continuing education requirements.
- Knowledge of the principles and practices of reference and reader’s advisory services.
- Current knowledge of information sources and search tools.
- Knowledge of the principles and practices of collection development and maintenance.
- Knowledge of all CCPL policies, procedures, and guidelines.
- Familiar with relevant computer equipment and associated software applications.
- Ability to operate Library equipment.
- Ability to develop and present programs.
- Commitment to excellent internal and external customer service.
- Excellent communication skills.
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree.
- Requires 90 contact hours of approved in-service training through Library Associate Training Institute (LATI) within first 2 years of employment or 9 hours of formal academic course work in library science.
