The Enoch Pratt Free Library has an opening for a tech-savvy and service-oriented Children's and Young Adult Library Associate II to support our vibrant library branches. This role blends literacy, technology, and community engagement to make libraries accessible and exciting for all.

Reporting to the Branch Manager, this position supports information services, leads dynamic programs, and ensures equitable access to library resources. You will also receive support and guidance from the Neighborhood Library Services team and benefit from ongoing professional development.

This on-site position requires a flexible schedule, including evenings and Saturdays, with potential assignments at other branches.

Summary of Duties:

This list reflects core responsibilities but is not exhaustive. Duties may evolve based on branch needs.

  • Provide welcoming, knowledgeable reference and readers’ advisory services to all ages

  • Plan and lead engaging programs, including storytimes, book talks, school visits, and tech-based learning activities.

  • Support digital literacy by assisting customers with public computers, the catalog, e-resources, and library databases.

  • Contribute to collection maintenance by tracking usage trends and weeding.

  • Stay current on literature and educational trends through professional development, meetings, and committees.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university.

  • Two (2) years of library, education, or customer service experience.

  • Experience using library systems and online databases.

  • One year of experience with Microsoft Office.

  • Physical Requirements: Physical exertion such as standing; or recurring activities such as bending, crouching, reaching; pushing loaded book trucks; or recurring lifting of moderately heavy items such as boxes of books or journals.

  • Complete LATI (Library Associate Training Institute) certification within the first year of employment.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in youth services, literacy programming, or children’s literature.

  • Fluency in Spanish, Arabic, Chinese, French, Korean, or other foreign languages.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Strong communication and customer service skills, especially with youth and families.

  • Knowledge of early literacy, child development, and youth reading interests.

  • Ability to plan inclusive, age-appropriate programs using both traditional and digital tools.

  • Understanding of urban community needs and barriers to access.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and integrated library systems (ILS).

  • Flexibility to work evenings and Saturdays as needed.
