Work Schedule:
24 hours per week

Pay Rate:
$26,956.80 - $43,130.88 annually plus benefits
The initial compensation for this position generally falls between $26,956.80 and $28,304.64 contingent upon relevant experience and qualifications.

Job Summary:

Assists adult, teen, and juvenile customers with a variety of informational and programming services in the adult department; maintains assigned areas of collection; works under general supervision; performs other duties as assigned.


Essential Functions:

1. Greets customers and responds to information, circulation, reference, and reader’s advisory requests using model reference and reader’s advisory behaviors.
2. Maintains current knowledge of information resources and search tools to assist customers.
3. Uses current knowledge of Library related technology to assist and instruct customers and perform basic troubleshooting.
4. Analyzes customers’ questions to decide search strategy and uses appropriate information resources to meet customer needs.
5. Processes customers’ requests for materials.
6. Weeds, replaces, and adds materials to adult collections as directed and according to branch and system guidelines, suggests additions to collection area.
7. Prepares and presents programs, booktalks, and event activities both in the branch and at other locations such as schools, and special events.
8. Registers customers for programs.
9. Conducts library tours for various groups.
10. Creates and maintains library displays.
11. Monitors and coordinates placement of miscellaneous materials.
12. Communicates library policies and procedures to customers as appropriate.
13. Manages multiple customers simultaneously while providing exemplary customer service.
14. Serves as librarian-in-charge as needed; responsibilities include but are not limited to opening and closing activities, resolving customer complaints, handling facility and security issues, and communicating necessary information to staff.
15. Participates in meetings, teams/committees/workgroups, outreach activities and training opportunities, as appropriate.
16. May act as Passport agent and process passport applications.
17. Performs other duties as instructed and assigned.

Qualifications

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

1. Knowledge of the principles and practices of reference and reader’s advisory services.
2. Current knowledge of information sources and search tools.
3. Knowledge of the principles and practices of collection development and maintenance.
4. Knowledge of CCPL policies, procedures, and guidelines.
5. Ability to maintain Maryland Library Associate continuing education requirements.
6. Ability to operate and demonstrate all relevant technologies.
7. Ability to operate Library equipment.
8. Ability to develop and present programs.
9. Commitment to excellent internal and external customer service.
10. Excellent communication skills.

Education and Experience:

1. Bachelor’s degree.
2. Requires 90 contact hours of approved in-service training through Library Associate Training Institute (LATI) within first 2 years of employment or 9 hours of formal academic course work in library science.
