Description

Lee County Library System invites staff to become part of the team at the Cape Coral Lee County Public Library.  As a Youth Services Library Associate, you will plan and implement storytimes and other programs in the library and at outreach locations for children, teens, and families. The successful candidate will be imaginative, team-oriented, dedicated, and customer service-driven with a strong commitment to providing excellent library service and will have the ability to relate positively to a diverse population.  

Duties and Responsibilities

As a Youth Services Library Associate at the Cape Coral Lee County Public Library, you’ll help bring engaging library experiences to young patrons both inside the branch and out in the community.


What You’ll Do:

  • Plan and present storytimes, activities, and other library programs for children, teens, and families

  • Provide friendly and welcoming customer service to patrons of all ages

  • Assist with reference questions, readers’ advisory, and the use of print and digital resources

  • Support youth collection maintenance, including displays, weeding, and organization

  • Help patrons navigate electronic resources, basic technology, and internet use

  • Create inviting displays that highlight library materials

  • Prepare purchase requests and basic reports as needed

  • Use standard library equipment, including computers, self-check machines, and photocopiers


To succeed in this role, you’ll need strong communication skills, the ability to work collaboratively with a team, and a commitment to providing inclusive service to a diverse community. You should be comfortable engaging with patrons of all ages, including children, teens, and those who speak languages other than English. Initiative, creativity, and flexibility are key—along with a willingness to grow and learn.

Spanish language skills are a plus.

Education, Experience, Licensing

Minimum qualifications:

  • A combination of education and experience equivalent to an Associate’s Degree or two years of college coursework
  • Two years of customer service or closely related experience

Preferred qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university.
  • One year of experience in a library setting
  • A valid Florida Driver’s License

Supplemental Information

Work Schedule: Full-time, 80 hours bi-weekly, with variable hours that may include evenings, Saturdays, and some Sundays

Location Flexibility: Employees may be reassigned temporarily or permanently to other locations in the system based on operational needs
