Support Library department with the following:

  • 20 to 30 hours per week 
  • Front desk coverage
  • Serials indexing
  • Building the Library’s industry research files
  • Building the Library’s digital repositories 
  • Accessioning, cataloging, and ingesting acquisitions 
  • Processing archival collections
  • Indexing still image collections across formats, employing metadata schemas for long-term access
  • Research projects 
  • Collections management and preservation projects
  • Community and industry outreach programs 
  • Physical and virtual exhibits
  • Library promotion and communications projects

Essential Knowledge, Skills and Abilities 

  • Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills
  • Ability to enhance the patron experience through exceptional customer service
  • Excellent research and critical thinking skills
  • Self-motivated and able to exercise initiative and independent judgement
  • Ability to work with attention to detail while meeting tight deadlines
  • Proficient in a wide range of library applications, technology peripherals, and digital asset management systems
  • Knowledge of the following:
  • Emerging trends and technology in research and special library services
  • Thoroughbred breeding and racing industry
  • Information and image resource preservation and conservation best practice standards

 

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Information Science, Equine Studies, Communications, Education, History, or a related field 
  • 2 to 3 years employment in a high service volume library, museum, heritage site, education, or cultural resource organization
  • 1 to 3 years of employment in the Thoroughbred industry or an industry-adjacent field
