Duties and Responsibilities

As a Library Associate, you’ll play a vital role in supporting daily operations and ensuring an exceptional experience for all library patrons. You’ll assist with the circulation of materials, manage patron accounts, support facility operations, and provide outstanding customer service in a dynamic, community-focused environment.


In this role, you will:

  • Assist patrons by checking materials in and out and managing holds and renewals
  • Issue and update library cards, maintaining accurate patron records
  • Accept payments for fines and fees, ensuring proper transaction handling
  • Run circulation reports and perform shelf checks to ensure collection accuracy
  • Support material organization through sorting, shelving, and shifting of items
  • Provide friendly and informed customer service to patrons of all ages and backgrounds
  • Supervise library volunteers and assist with training and daily coordination
  • Serve as a backup to the branch manager in overseeing library operations when needed
  • Address basic facility issues and coordinate with appropriate staff for resolution
  • Contribute to a positive, inclusive library environment through responsive public service

To succeed in this role, you’ll need strong communication skills, the ability to work collaboratively with a team, and a commitment to providing inclusive service to a diverse community. You should be comfortable engaging with patrons of all ages, including children, teens, and those who speak languages other than English. Initiative, creativity, and flexibility are key—along with a willingness to grow and learn.


Spanish language skills are a plus.

Education, Experience, Licensing

Minimum qualifications:

  • A combination of education and experience equivalent to an Associate’s Degree or two years of college coursework
  • Two years of customer service or closely related experience

Preferred qualifications:

  • One year of experience in a library setting
  • A valid Florida Driver’s License

Supplemental Information

Work Schedule: Full-time, 80 hours bi-weekly, with variable hours that may include evenings, Saturdays, and some Sundays

Location Flexibility: Employees may be reassigned temporarily or permanently to other locations in the system based on operational needs
