The College of Law Library’s Circulation Services Department is hiring for a Library Assistant II. This is a full-time staff position. This position provides service to library users at the Circulation Desk. This position reports to the Circulation Desk Supervisor (Library Specialist I).

HERE IS WHAT YOU WILL DO

  • Directs and trains library student assistants in the absence of the Circulation Desk Supervisor, in areas including library systems, technology, and policies

  • Provides service to library users at the circulation desk, including checking materials in and out, answering questions regarding circulation policies, providing information to patrons, answering phones

  • Maintains library environment and collections, including pushing in chairs, directing maintenance workers to problems, and reporting maintenance issues;

  • Maintains library collections, including shelving materials, filing looseleafs, assisting with the reserve collection, and reporting maintenance issues

  • Opens or closes the law library on at least one weekend day, which includes opening all essential doors, recording door stats, turning on lights, copy machine, scanners, and picking up newspapers and books from the book drop

  • Assists with lending and borrowing of items from other libraries, including retrieving books, packing, and preparing materials for shipment

  • Retrieves and copies documents for faculty using our document delivery service

  • Assists with processing of overdue notices

  • Creates library patron accounts as needed

  • Inspects returned library materials for damage

  • Shifts include opening or closing the library

  • Performs other duties as assigned

 

Minimum Hiring Qualifications\: 

High school diploma or GED and one year of library, customer service, or office experience. 

Preferred Hiring Qualifications\: 

Knowledge of Microsoft Access, Excel, Outlook, Teams, and Word; ability to troubleshoot; some knowledge of basic library procedures, methods, and techniques; ability to deal with library users in person and over the telephone; effective time management skills; effective oral and written communication skills; must be able to work without supervision.
