About the Position:

As a Library Assistant in the Collection Services department, you will work with the Librarian and handle mid‑level cataloging and classification for most formats. This role requires the ability to work independently and use library technology, including but not limited to a computer, email, and software programs.

Position Schedule:

  • Monday - Friday 8:00am-5:00pm

What You’ll Do:

  • Catalogs Print and AV material using ILS and OCLC following local, consortial and national practices. Verify name/title/subject authority and edit record. 
  • Maintains library online catalog. Examines request/problem in relation to items and records, uses standards of practice (local, consortial and national) to determine solution then edits record and/or performs call number changes. Communicates action taken to staff involved. 
  • Determines appropriate Dewey call number(s) and corresponding changes to comply with Dewey Decimal updates and/or local practices and edits record in Catalog. 
  • Assists with developing processes to conform to local, consortial and national standards, improving internal processes and training staff. 
  • Performs additional duties as assigned including serving on task forces, committees, etc. 

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree required. 
  • 1 – 3 years’ progressively more responsible library experience. 
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees, supervisors, and the general public. 
  • Ability to collect and analyze data and present results in projects. 
  • Ability to work independently. 
  • Ability to operate library technology including personal computer, email, software programs (i.e., Windows/Microsoft Office) and other job-related equipment and systems. 
  • Ability to utilize reliable transportation to promptly report to job assignment and other locations, per job requirements. 

Working Conditions and Physical Demands:

The work environment involves everyday risks or discomforts that require normal safety precautions typical of such places as offices, meeting and training rooms, libraries, and residences or commercial vehicles (e.g., use of safe workplace practices with office equipment, avoidance of trips and falls, observance of fire regulations and traffic signals, and/or working in moderate outdoor weather conditions). 

Work requires occasional lifting or pushing of up to 20 lbs. and the frequent lifting or pushing of up to 10 lbs.
