Description

This position assists the Library Director with library services and manages the daily operations of the library circulation desk and computer lab. The Library Assistant shall be directly responsible to the Director of Library Services and shall maintain a positive customer service orientation. The work day is generally 8 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. Monday - Friday.  Additional evening hours will occasionally be required.

Job Duties

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

  • Assist the Library Director with library services and manage the daily operations of the library circulation desk and computer lab area while maintaining a positive customer service orientation
  • Process and monitor overdue accounts, place and remove academic holds (in Jenzabar) on delinquent patrons
  • Perform stack maintenance such as shelving, shelf reading, shifting, and shifting of special displays (making edits and status changes in the library system)
  • Assist in collection development and maintain the college textbooks reserves and collects, distribute
  • Process library material and provide cataloging assistance to the Library Technician and make edits and status changes to library records
  • Perform circulation services including checking-in, checking-out, sorting and shelving items and checking book drops
  • Assist in interviewing, hiring, scheduling, training, and managing student workers
  • Monitor and troubleshoot problems with scanners, copiers, and printers, maintain and order library supplies and sort the Schoenherr Campus Center mail
  • Inter Library Loan (ILL) Requests
  • Circulate materials in the WSCC Literacy program
  • Maintain Library of Things collection, processing returns and making sure all materials are functional to return to circulation and replacing consumable materials as needed

  • Maintain and safeguard equipment, software, and facilities
  • Comply with college policies and procedures
  • Maintain a safe work environment
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Qualifications

  • Associate degree (2 years) in office administration, business, or related field, OR equivalent work experience/training directly related to job responsibilities
  • Prior work experience in business or customer service environment

  • Strong organizational skills and ability to prioritize tasks

Compensation: Starting hourly rate $17.34 or above (commensurate with skills/experience). Full benefits package including health/dental/vision insurance, retirement, wellness center, educational assistance, WSCC tuition waiver for employee/dependents, generous paid time off.
