The Library Assistant provides excellent customer service to library patrons and supports daily library operations. This position performs a variety of tasks, including shelving books, maintaining tidy and organized areas, assisting with library programs, supporting the computer lab, and handling front desk duties. The ideal candidate is friendly, dependable, and enjoys working with the public in a team-oriented environment.
Provide courteous, professional, and helpful assistance to patrons of all ages.
Check library materials in and out, issue new library cards, and manage patron accounts.
Shelve and organize books, DVDs, and other materials accurately; ensure collections are in proper order.
Maintain tidy, welcoming, and well-organized public spaces throughout the library.
Assist with setup, facilitation, and cleanup for library programs, story times, and community events.
Support patrons with computer use, printing, and basic troubleshooting of library technology.
Answer telephones, direct inquiries, and provide general information about library services, hours, and policies.
Assist with displays, bulletin boards, and promotions of library programs and resources.
Help track inventory and prepare materials for processing or repair.
Perform other related duties as assigned.
High school diploma or equivalent required
Previous customer service or library experience preferred.
Basic computer skills, including familiarity with Microsoft Office and internet navigation.
Ability to assist patrons with library software, e-resources, and public computers.
Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with a friendly, professional demeanor.
Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
Willingness to learn new skills and adapt to evolving technology and procedures.
Must be dependable, punctual, and able to follow established policies and procedures.
Availability to work evenings and weekends as scheduled.
