The full-time Library Assistant reports directly to the Library Director. The position primarily coordinates the staffing and operations of the circulation desk, including scheduling and training student workers, and implementing related policies. The role also assists with tasks like patron requests, reference assistance, reserve readings, mailroom services, library tours, and library off-site organization. This position involves frequent physical demands.



Essential Job Functions


Responsibilities and Requirements

  • Circulation Desk: Staff, schedule, and manage the circulation desk operations consistent with the library’s circulation policies and procedures throughout the semester. Plan student worker weekly schedules and coordinate the hours with the student worker scholarship fund. 
  • Off-Site: Assist in the organization and operations at the library's off-site location.
  • Mailroom: Oversee student workers in mailroom operations and perform mail sorting, delivery, and shipping as needed.
  • Support Services: Assist in providing reference services to library patrons on subjects that include theology, church history, biblical studies and languages, and psychology and counseling. Assist in fulfilling patron requests for specific items, managing the materials and supplies inventory and orders, and processing donations and new acquisitions.
Requirements

Qualifications, Education, and Experience

  • Bachelor of Arts or Science degree from an accredited four-year University.
  • Excellent computer skills, including high proficiency in MS Office and Adobe PDF applications.
  • Previous supervisory experience.
  • Excellent organizational and bookkeeping skills.


Additional Qualification Preferences:

  • Seminary degree from an ATS-accredited graduate school.
  • Previous professional library experience.


Cognitive and Physical Demands

  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds regularly.
  • Computer work, screen time, keyboarding, typing, wrist flexing/extension, and other repetitive movements.
  • Professional judgment in alignment with organizational values and policies is required. 
  • Effective communication, both verbal and written.
  • Ability to present training workshops, library orientations, and tours.
  • Kneeling, standing, reaching, twisting, and grasping.
  • Ability to work nights and Saturdays as needed.
