    Employment:               Library Assistants are compensated for all student days plus two (2) days immediately prior to the beginning of the school year and one (1) day immediately following the end of the school year.  
     
    SUMMARY:                  Assist elementary staff and maintain the elementary library and media center.
     
     
    ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 
     
    1. Process books and other media materials according to method or system prescribed by librarian.
    2. Check out and receive books and media materials according to prescribed system.
    3. Keep library room and materials in neat and orderly manner.
    4. Assist teachers and students in locating library materials.
    5. Maintain order and control of students in library.
    6. Assist in orientation of teachers and students in use of library.
    7. Assist as needed in preparation of orders for library materials and checking of orders received against invoices.
    8. Online card catalog use
    9. Prepare or supervise preparations of displays.
    10. Check out equipment to teachers.
    11. Supervise any student assistant assigned to the library.
    12. Shelve books.
    13. Maintain file of back issues of periodicals for specified periods of times.
    14. Familiarize students and teachers with new library materials.
    15. Such other duties as the librarian and principal may assign form time to time.
     
    QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
    Experience with children and youth preferred
     
    EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
    • Completed two years of college
    • Hold a two year degree
    • Pass state parapro
     
    LANGUAGE SKILLS:
    Ability to read, analyze, and interpret professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.  Ability to write reports, correspondences, and procedure manuals.  Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions.
     
     
    MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:
    Ability to apply general mathematical concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
     
    REASONING ABILITY:
    Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.  Ability to interpret a variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
     
    OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
    Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, peers, parents and community, and ability to speak clearly and concisely in written or oral communication.
