The City of Lake Worth Beach invites qualified candidates to apply for Librarian (Children’s Services).
This is a Full-Time, Non-Exempt position based on a 40-Hour work week with an hourly rate TBD. The position is part of the Public Employees Union (PEU) collective bargaining agreement. The individual in this position will work at the Leisure Services Library located at 15 North M Street, Lake Worth Beach, FL 33460.

Summary
An employee in this class is responsible for various professional duties and assignments requiring a knowledge of library principles, practices and techniques. Assignments are carried out under the direction of the Library Manager who reviews the work for conformance to established policies and standards of professional practices. Functional supervision or direction may be exercised over library paraprofessional and clerical personnel.
Supervisory Received and Exercised
This position receives immediate supervision from the Library Manager and performs the occasional supervision of Library Associates and volunteers
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following:
Becomes familiar with the City of Lake Worth Beach and its residents
Assists in develops plans for the Library in line with the City’s Strategic Plan
Assists in creating Library and Children’s Services long and short-term goals and objectives for approval by Library Manager
Assists in developing Library policies and procedures for approval by Library Manager
Seeks and prepares grant funding opportunities
Plans, prepares, and executes programs such as Storytimes, family events, Read Across America, BiblioArte, Children’s Book Day, National Library Week, Summer Reading, Read for the Record, school visits, school field trips, reading incentive programs
Maintains Children’s service area by preparing displays, shelving books, and reading shelves.
Develops Library programs and outreach services
Represents the Library with Literacy, Cultural, and Educational partners
Maintains knowledge and competency in the area of Libraries, Literacy, And Children’s Services
Provides readers advisory services
Evaluates materials for purchase
Provides information services to Library visitors
Prepares and submits statistics as needed
Performs related work as required
Performs all functions with exemplary customer service
Qualifications

Knowledge of professional library principles, practices and techniques
Knowledge of the current literature, trends, and developments in the field of library science appropriate to the area of assignment
Ability to master functions of a computerized integrated on-line circulation system as well as office related software
Must be able to navigate social media and library service sites
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with library patrons of all ages and employees
Ability to communicate effectively, orally, and in writing
Education and/or Experience
Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Master's Degree in Library Science (MLS) accredited by the American Library Association; or 10 years of public library experience; to include children’s services as well as supervisory experience and any equivalent combination of related training and experience.
