Description

The Lee County Library System is seeking a dynamic and service-oriented Reference Librarian to join the team at the Northwest Regional Library, located in Cape Coral, Florida. This position primarily serves adults but also provides daily service and programming for children and teens.

The ideal candidate will demonstrate a strong commitment to public service, excellent communication skills, and the ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.

About the Library:

Northwest Regional Library is a busy and vibrant facility located between two schools in one of Lee County’s fastest-growing areas. The library serves as a community hub and a popular after-school destination for teens, offering diverse programming and high levels of community engagement.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provide high-quality reference, readers’ advisory, and technology assistance to patrons of all ages.
  • Maintain and promote the adult collection, including selection, weeding, and display creation.
  • Plan, develop, and conduct library programs for adults and teens, both in the library and through community outreach.
  • Present tours and educational sessions for school and community groups.
  • Assist in the daily operations of the branch, including acting as the librarian-in-charge as assigned.
  • Provide training and support on digital literacy and emerging technologies to patrons and staff.
  • Participate in branch and system-wide committees, initiatives, and professional development opportunities.
  • Uphold and administer library policies and procedures consistently and tactfully.

Education, Experience, Licensing

Required:

  • A Master’s Degree in Library or Information Science from an accredited library school

OR

  • A Bachelor’s Degree with current enrollment in an accredited library science program and graduation within 6 months of hire.
  • Demonstrated customer service experience, preferably in a library or related setting.
  • Ability to work flexible hours including evenings and weekends.

 

Preferred:
  • Preferred: Master’s Degree in Library or Information Science from an accredited program
  • One year of library or related public service experience.
  • Valid Florida driver’s license.
  • Additional language proficiency.
  • Experience developing and implementing library programs.
  • Familiarity with current trends in library technology and services.

Supplemental Information

  • Ability to work effectively with a diverse community, including children, teens, and individuals with varied technological abilities.
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 35 lbs., and to bend, stretch, sit, and stand for extended periods.
  • Proficiency in operating library-related technology and equipment.
  • Flexibility to work at other library locations as required by the system’s operational needs.
