Full-time, 40-hour position. Schedule includes hours in both Fulton and Holts Summit branches and will be determined based on the needs of the department.
Position Overview
Under the general supervision of the Callaway County Public Library Services Manager the Youth Services Librarian performs duties requiring the exercise of professional level skill, initiative and independent judgment. Primary responsibilities include coordinating children’s and teen services and programming for residents of Callaway County.

Essential Duties:
- Plan and supervise, with the Manager and librarian team, the operation of the Callaway County Public Library and Holts Summit Public Library.
- Assist in formulating long-range organization plans (goals, objectives, strategies) and their implementation.
- Specific supervisory responsibility for the public services staff members working in the Children’s areas of the library.
- Serve as a back-up for the Callaway County Public Library Services Manager and as a back-up for the public service points as needed.
- Supervise the development of children’s and young adult material collections for CCPL and HSPL.
- Supervise daily duties in the Children’s area.
- Coordinate Children’s area activities, special projects, maintain physical layout, equipment and order of the area.
- Initiate, coordinate and provide programming for youth in Callaway County.
- Assist users in the location and use of library materials, computers, equipment and services using advanced library research skills and methodology.
- Recommend purchase of materials in other collection areas.
- Serve as a resource for other staff for all purposes of information and training in designated area of expertise.
- Build effective working relationships with the public and other library staff members; work as a team member with other staff to provide a continuum of library service to the public.
- Serve as a member of DBRL committees as assigned.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
Serves as Librarian-in-Charge of the Callaway County and Holts Summit Library buildings as designated.
Duties and responsibilities, as required by business necessity may be added, deleted or changed at any time at the discretion of management, formally or informally, either verbally or in writing. Scheduling and shift assignments and work location may be changed at any time, as required by business necessity.
Physical, Environmental, and Special Working Conditions:
- Position requires standing or sitting for extended periods of time, pushing bookcarts, bending, stooping, reaching, lifting, and working on a computer.
- Position may require outreach activities including driving outreach vehicle, setting up booths and lifting small equipment.
- Moderately loud work environment. Work will be required on evenings and weekends.
- All library employees may be called upon to assist other departments in a declared emergency situation.
