Description

The Librarian will ensure that the library runs smoothly on a daily basis; that it is organized and functional for students, faculty, and school community. The Librarian will maintain proper records of all  books in the library, and update files as new material becomes available. The librarian will teach a weekly class to lower school students and provide or support ongoing engagements with the school.

Job Type: On-Site, Part-Time based on 65% of Full-Time, Salary, Exempt 


Responsibilities and Duties: these are not written to be all inclusive and not limited to  

  • Manage the selection, purchasing, and organization of all library materials to ensure the collection meets the needs of students and staff. 
  • Regularly assess and weed the library collection, removing outdated or damaged materials and ensuring the library stays current and relevant. 
  • Process new acquisitions, including cataloging, covering, labeling, and shelving books and resources. 
  • Maintain an accurate and up-to-date inventory of all library materials and resources. 
  • Provide resources to support classroom teachers, offering books and materials aligned with curriculum goals. 
  • Oversee the day-to-day operations of the school library, ensuring a safe, welcoming, and well-organized space for students and faculty. 
  • Maintain library policies and procedures for check-out and returns. 
  • Update and create new patron barcodes for students and faculty at the start of each school year. 
  • Update and refresh library displays to highlight diversity, equity, inclusion (DEI) themes, new titles, or featured authors. 
  • Plan and teach developmentally appropriate lessons and activities including library skills to Pre-K through 5th grade students, focusing on literacy, information literacy, and research skills weekly. 
  • Facilitate book club for 4th and 5th grade students, fostering discussion and deeper engagement with literature. 
  • Create weekly book spotlights to introduce students to new titles by grade level, fostering excitement for reading. 
  • Design and implement reading incentives and programs to motivate students and promote regular reading habits. 
  • Provide updates to parents on student progress and learnings through quarterly specialist slides and report cards. 
  • Plan and coordinate an annual book fair and author visits for the entire school of PreK through 8th grade. 
  • Manage weekly parent and student volunteers in the library. 
  • Participate in parent teacher conferences, Back to School Nights, graduation and admission events 
  • Attend school chapel on weekly basis, open houses, committees, and other school functions as required on weekdays and weekends 
  • Chaperone student field trips; some overnight 
  • Engage in ongoing professional development experiences, including out of the area opportunities, throughout the calendar year (including summer) as directed and supported by the administration  
  • Other related duties assigned by Supervisor

Requirements

Qualifications: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Library Science, Education, or a related field; preferred Master’s in Library Science or Teacher Librarian Services credential 
  • Prior experience as a librarian 
  • Familiar with database and management system software for books, records, and documents 
  • Familiar with standard library organization and strong organizational skills 
  • Experience working with students and facilitating clubs 
  • Experience with event and community involvement 
  • Eligibility to work in the USA; we are unable to provide sponsorship 
  • Pass background check and provide negative TB test  
  • Current Bloodborne Pathogens, First Aid & CPR certifications or able to attain within the first 2 months of employment

  • Apple/Mac and iOS environment with laptop and similar devices, and accessories?

Physical Requirements:  

  • Ability to visually monitor the room and students? 
  • Prolong standing up to and above 80% of time. Includes sitting, squatting, reaching, and kneeling.? 
  • Climb stairs and navigate sloping terrain 
  • Ability to move equipment/boxes and ability to lift up to 25lbs.? 

Work Environment:  

  • Navigate 10 acres of land with multi surfaces, multi-level with transitions 
  • Surfaces including wood, linoleum, grass, concrete, dirt, gravel.? 
  • Sustain loud noises for a minimum of 50% of time depending on activities? 
  • Sustain indoor artificial lighting for 80% of time or higher depending on activities, backlit monitors 
  • Able to handle outdoor weather including bright sun to rain, and temperature from cold to hot
