  •   JOB DESCRIPTION
     
    TITLE:  LIBRARIAN 
     
    QUALIFICATIONS:  MUST HOLD A MINIMUM OF BACHELOR'S DEGREE IN EDUCATION, HOLD A VALID TEACHING CERTIFICATE IN THEIR AREA.  SUCH ALTERNATIVES TO THE ABOVE QUALIFICATIONS AS THE BOARD MAY FIND APPROPRIATE AND ACCEPTABLE.
     
    REPORTS TO:  BUILDING PRINCIPAL OR HIS DESIGNEE
     
    PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
     
    1.             Planning and implementing the library program.
    2.             Planning library quarters.
    3.             Selecting and arranging library furniture and equipment.
    4.             Scheduling the use of the library by classes and by groups.
    5.             Preparing and administering the library budget and any supplementary funds which might be available.
    6.             Planning and implementing the integration of the library program with the educational program.
    7.             Relating the building library program with all other library programs in the district.
    8.             Programming for student and teacher use of library resources.
    9.             Preparing statistical, financial and progress reports.
    10.          Organizing and supervising the circulation of library materials.
    11.          Publicizing the services and resources of the library.
    12.          Coordinating the services of school, college and public libraries.
    13.          Cooperating with school and community organizations.
    14.          Participating in evaluating and implementing the district library program.
    15.          Evaluating the building library program, services and material in terms of adequacy in meeting curricular needs, student needs, community needs, and state and national standards.
    16.          Becoming conversant with all aspects of the educational program:  courses of study, textbooks, manuals, workbooks, resource units, teacher-made study guides and plans and pilot projects.
    17.          Actively planning with individual teachers and groups of teachers to integrate library service, guidance and materials with the classroom teaching program.
    18.          Providing library service, guidance and resources which will customize and personalize teaching.
    19.          Providing library service, guidance and resources which will individualize learning.
    20.          Sharing with classroom teachers the responsibility for designing and implementing a functional study skills program.
    21.          Teaching and evaluating of all student library aides in the effective use of a school library.
    22.          Participating in department and faculty meetings as well as curriculum study and revision.
    23.          Keeping conversant with current educational research, trends, methods and materials.
    24.          Providing materials for the professional growth of the faculty.
    25.          Creating and maintaining an atmosphere conducive to effective library use.
     
    SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:
     
    1.             Establishing routines and procedures for selecting, ordering, processing, organizing and circulating materials.
    2.             Maintaining accurate records of library holdings.
    3.             Weeding obsolete and worn materials from the collection.
    4.             Supervising the clerical routines necessary for the smooth operation of the library.
     
    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE JOB:
    1.             Must have the use of both hands, arms, legs and feet.
    2.             Must have the ability to communicate effectively with administration, faculty and students through talking and hearing.
    3.             Must have the physical ability to do limited moving and placement of library materials.
    4.             Must have the ability to read regularly printed materials.
