Primary Purpose:

Assist in directing the operation of the school library. Partner with the other High School Librarian to provide services and resources that allow students to develop skills in locating, evaluating, synthesizing, design thinking, and using information to solve problems. Serve as teacher, materials expert, and curriculum adviser to ensure the library is involved in instructional programs of the school.

 

Qualifications:

Education/Certification:

Master’s Degree from accredited college or university

Valid Texas librarian or learning resources specialist certificate or endorsement

 

Special Knowledge/Skills:

  • Knowledge of library and information science
  • Knowledge of effective design and presentation strategies/skills for all levels of learners
  • Strong organizational, communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a campus team
  • Ability to instruct and manage learner behavior

Experience:

Minimum of three years of experience in library in public school setting

 

Major Responsibilities and Duties:

Library Program

1.     Encourage and support teachers in reimagining instruction and assessment of student learning.

2.     Provide and maintain a space that allows for creative, collaborative, and innovative learning opportunities.

3.     Remove barriers to provide equitable, diverse, and inclusive voices in support of the literacy of the school community.

4.     Model ethical and legal use of learning resources.

5.     Foster and advocate for a culture of collaboration, innovation, capacity building, and empowerment within the school community.

6.     Carry out the mission and vision of the campus, department, and district.

 

Instructional Partner

7.      Model and assist with the integration of varied learning resources.

8.      Partner with instructional staff and lead the school community in all areas of digital citizenship; teach and promote student data safety and privacy through instruction and role as an educational leader.

9.      Guide students and staff in the safe, ethical, legal, and effective use of resources.

10.    Collaborate and co-teach with all grade levels and content areas in a variety of instructional settings.

11.    Empower all members of the learning community to be creators, risk-takers, and comfortable with failure as part of the learning process.

12.     Attend and contribute to teacher collaborative team meetings as appropriate.

13.     Curate and provide vetted and credible print and digital materials to support district curriculum and classroom instruction.

14.     Embed information literacy instruction in all contents and disciplines.

 

Leader

15.     Grow capacity in colleagues at the campus levels through professional learning and embedded support.

16.     Apply a current understanding of instructional models for adult learners to design and implement professional learning based on campus and district needs.

17.     Evaluate the impact of provided professional learning, and continually make improvements.

 

Administration

18.     Oversee program administration of budget, ordering of instructional materials and supplies, and supervision of paraprofessional and student assistants.

19.     Maintain and provide a learning environment that is inclusive for all learners.

20.     Maintain synchronous and asynchronous services for 24/7 access to information and resources.

21.     Compile, maintain, and file all reports, records, and other documents required.

22.     Comply with federal and state laws, State Board of Education rule, and board policy.  Comply with all district and campus routines and regulations.

 

Other Duties

23.     Direct the work of a paraprofessional aide(s), student aides, and volunteers.

24.     Comply with all district policies and participate in campus activities and meetings.

25.     Perform all other duties as assigned by campus administration, director of libraries, director of instructional technology, and district administration.

Tools/Equipment Used: Personal computer and peripherals; standard instructional equipment; makerspace equipment and fabrication tools

Posture: Prolonged standing; frequent kneeling/squatting, bending/stooping, pushing/pulling, and twisting

Lifting: Regular light lifting and carrying (less than 15 pounds); may lift and move text books and classroom equipment as well as makerspace and fabrication tools
