Summary
This position is responsible for overseeing the Genealogy & Local History collection at Main Library and advancing the uses of this collection to area residents and non-local visiting genealogists. The individual filling this position will serve as a liaison to community groups, professional organizations and other parties having interests in the areas of genealogy, family history and local history. This position requires the planning and conducting of programs on a regular basis within and outside the Library, as well as the active participation in community engagement initiatives in this subject specialty. The individual who assumes this position is responsible for assisting and instructing library users individually and in groups to use library resources, especially in the areas delineated above. He or she will train other librarians about the resources of the Genealogy & Local History Collection so that assistance to customers can be provided in the absence of the Genealogy Librarian. The provision of regular reference service in the Specialized Services Department, as well as sharing in the backroom work of that department, is also a requirement of the position.
Typically oversees a program or subject area. Work is sometimes standardized and sometimes more varied. Employee knows and understands work requirements and completes tasks without direction. Employee has some independent decision-making opportunities. Requires judgment and interpretation of general instructions. Minimal level of supervision is provided, generally for problem resolution. Provides training to other librarians but is not a direct supervisor.
