  •   DEFINITION: Under limited supervision, provides students and staff with an enriched Library Media Center environment containing a wide variety of materials in all formats that will invite intellectual growth and to aid all students in acquiring the skills needed to take advantage of Library Media Center resources. Works with teachers and other educators to build and strengthen connections between student information and research needs, curricular content, learning outcomes and information resources.
     
    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

    TASKS:
    Provides library support and leadership to two elementary schools in collaboration with the schools’ leadership; supports Digital Citizenship and Digital Literacy curriculum development and delivery; creates, organizes, and maintains physical and virtual information hubs; oversees annual laptop and General Fixed Asset Inventory; oversees the annual library inventory process and administers the Library Media Center budget; evaluates, selects, and requisitions new Library Media Center materials that will maintain a balanced relevant collection; manages a library of both traditional and emerging information resources; removes or repairs obsolete and worn materials from the collection; develops a community library support model; collaborates with teachers and students to design and teach engaging inquiry, learning experiences, and assessments that incorporate multiple literacies and foster critical thinking; joins with teachers and others to plan and implement meaningful experiences that will promote a love of reading and lifelong learning; models effective strategies for developing multiple literacies; plans and administers the Library Media Center program; researches current educational trends and curricular possibilities.
     
    Provides staff development for teachers in evaluation, selection, and use of materials and equipment; assists teachers in the selection of instructional materials and resources and makes Library Media Center materials available to supplement the instructional program; provides reference and bibliographic services for patrons; plans cooperatively with teachers to co-teach and integrate information skill lessons into the curriculum; helps students and staff develop skills in locating and using materials independently; provides reading guidance students; participates in department meetings, curriculum meetings, and other instructional groups; supervises and manages the Library Media Center support staff; writes grants and seeks funding and donations; performs other duties as assigned
     
    KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND OTHER CHARACTERISTICS:
    Knowledge of curriculum development of Digital Citizenship and Digital Literacy curriculum.
    Knowledge of Library Media Center operations and procedures.
    Knowledge of District policies and procedures.
    Skill in the use of keyboard, writing, and operating all equipment in the Library Media Center.
    Skill in communicating effectively with staff and students by using good judgment in order to solve problems.
    Skill in adapting to changing technologies and educational strategies.
     
    PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Work is performed in an indoor environment. Work requires frequent sitting, bending, repetitive motion, attention to detail, and may require some lifting.
     
    QUALIFICATIONS:
    Bachelor’s Degree in Education or related field, Master’s Degree in Library Information Science preferred.
    Valid Arizona Teaching Certificate.
