Job Summary
Under the supervision of the Dean of Libraries and Learning Resources, the Reference and Instruction Librarian plans, coordinates, and delivers formal library instruction across all academic disciplines; provides impromptu reference services for University students, faculty, and staff; and assists with collection development for both print and electronic resources.

- Plans, coordinates, and delivers formal library instruction to classes across all academic disciplines.
- Prepares instructional materials including online tutorials, handouts, bibliographies, research guides, and other materials as needed.
- Serves as the primary provider of impromptu reference services within the Hattiesburg campus library and all online library assistance platforms.
- Trains and supervises student employees in the performance of reference duties.
- Provides training in reference services and resources for library personnel.
- Responsible for surveying and assessing the effectiveness of the library’s formal instruction program.
- Assists with hiring, scheduling, training, supervising, and evaluating the Hattiesburg library’s student employees, as needed.
- Serves as a library faculty member, participating in planning and evaluation of library services, and keeping informed about professional issues related to job responsibilities.
- Oversees evening library operations as needed, providing circulation and reference assistance to patrons.
