Job Description:

Primary Responsibility

The Instructional Reference Librarian coordinates online and face to face library instruction and reference services. The Instructional Reference Librarian is responsible for providing library services at the assigned location(s) and/or online learning.

This position provides face to face and online library research training and reference services to CMC students, faculty and staff, promotes library resources and services, develops library outreach programs, and circulates interlibrary loan materials.

*This is a part-time position which is limited to 28 hours per CMC’s workweek. CMC’s workweek is Saturday through Friday.

Pre-requisites for Position (Qualifications Standards)

Education and experience sufficient for the rigors of the position. Examples of ideal qualifications may include a Master’s Degree in Library Science from an ALA accredited institution and one year of experience providing instruction and reference services, or equivalent education and experience that will provide the necessary knowledge, skill and abilities to perform the functions of the position.

Special Skills or abilities directly applicable to the position: knowledge of information literacy principles; teaching methodologies; online information sources, library reference and interlibrary loan practices. Strong online information retrieval skills; strong written, verbal, organizational and interpersonal skills; strong computer skills, ability to organize and prioritize work and meet deadlines.

The hiring pay rate is $32.27 per hour. Benefits include retirement contribution, annual and sick time, mental health resources, and tuition benefit. CMC utilizes a wage progression compensation model that accounts for a candidate’s skill and experience. Although a hiring rate is listed, this will be set commensurate with the successful candidate’s qualifications and in compliance with the Equal Pay for Equal Work Act.

Minimum Qualifications:

Essential Duties

  • Coordinates Library instruction and reference services.

  • Provides face-to-face and online instruction sessions on using Library collection and services.

  • Provides face-to-face and online reference services.

  • Promotes Library resources and services.

  • Facilitates interlibrary loan service.

  • Handles circulation of interlibrary loan materials.

  • Obtains borrower information and delivers library cards to students, faculty and staff.

  • Collects usage statistics for interlibrary loan, reference, and instructional services.

  • May act as a liaison between students, faculty and staff requiring research and the Virtual and/or Library Director in the procurement of the necessary materials.

  • Assists in the development of long range plans for the Library.

  • This position will also provide assistance and support to the assigned campus(es) for special events, campus green initiatives, participation on search committees and other responsibilities as may be required.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Supervision Received

This position reports to a designated administrator.

Supervisory Responsibility

This position may supervise clerical or technical staff.

Special Conditions of Employment

Successful completion of a background check including motor vehicles record report will be required. Incumbents in this position will adhere to all safety and compliance policies of Colorado Mountain College while performing all duties assigned. Travel, evening and weekends may be required at times.

Working Conditions 

This position requires constant sitting, occasional walking, standing and driving; occasional handling objects, pushing/pulling; frequent reaching with hands/arms, and use of finger movements; occasional lifting, carrying, pushing or pulling objects up to 50 lbs.  Constant written and oral communication and the ability to reason and analyze and perform calculations occasionally. Work is performed using a computer and standard office equipment daily and driving a vehicle occasionally.
