Overview and Responsibilities






Saint Mary's University of Minnesota is seeking an Instruction and Outreach Librarian who is eager to contribute to its Lasallian Catholic mission of awakening, nurturing, and empowering learners to ethical lives of service and leadership. The Instruction and Faculty Outreach Librarian creates a vibrant Winona faculty outreach program. The position also enables students, faculty, and staff to become independent researchers through transformative individual and group instruction, delivered face-to-face and online. This position is based on the Winona campus and collaborates with faculty to teach students information literacy concepts, authors print and interactive web instructional materials, and delivers user-centered reference..

 

The Saint Mary's University Libraries collaborate significantly across campuses, giving a motivated, innovative person the opportunity to partner and collaborate with colleagues in the Learning, Curriculum & Engagement team, serving both our undergraduate and graduate programs.

 

Travel is not required for face-to-face instruction on the Minneapolis campus. Instruction will be provided virtually or by an instruction librarian based in Minneapolis.

 

Job Responsibilities

  • Creates a vibrant Winona faculty outreach program.
  • Serves as the School of Business & Technology liaison for the university, online in Minneapolis and face-to-face in Winona, and participates on campus committees.
  • Develops effective working relationships through committee, departmental, and School of Business & Technology faculty outreach for both undergraduate and graduate programs.
  • Delivers user-centered instruction, both face-to-face and online.
  • Designs, assesses, and continuously improves instructional services and curricula.
  • Creates print, video, and interactive online instructional materials.
  • Collaborates with faculty to integrate information literacy concepts into courses.
  • Provides user-centered and efficient reference via email, chat, phone, and face-to-face or Zoom consultations.
  • Supports Business & Technology students in the embedded information literacy instruction program (eBrarian).
  • Identifies, evaluates, and selects electronic and print resources for the library.
  • Stays current on instructional and reference procedures, strategies, and technologies.
  • Consults on copyright and intellectual property issues, and creates copyright documentation.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

  • Uses basic computer software, such as Microsoft Office Suite and Google Workspace.
  • Uses instructional software, such as LibGuides and Articulate Storyline.
  • Supports, respects, and advances the mission of Saint Mary’s University as a Lasallian Catholic university

Experience and Education Requirements

 

Required:

  • Master of Library Science degree from an American Library Association (ALA) accredited institution or equivalent.
  • Experience or education which demonstrates knowledge of information literacy instruction.
  • Demonstrated ability to participate in a collaborative work environment.
  • Qualities necessary for positive interaction with students, faculty and staff.
  • May consider other acceptable equivalent combinations of training and experience.

 

Preferred:

  • Information literacy teaching experience.
  • Fluency in Spanish.
  • Experience assisting users with library databases, reference, and circulation inquiries.
  • Experience working in an academic library.
  • Experience with web authoring.
  • Experience using Alma or other library system; learning management systems (e.g. Canvas); discovery layers, such as Primo or EBSCO Discovery Service; instruction software such as Articulate Storyline, Camtasia, and Springshare products such as LibGuides and LibWizard.
