General Description of Duties


  • Provide excellent customer service at the Health Sciences Library service desk.

  • Answer questions about library resources, policies, and general information.

  • Check out library materials to users.

  • Check in returned library materials.

  • Give general support to users for basic printing and computing issues.

  • Perform data entry or similar clerical functions in support of library collection assessment or other projects.

  • Monitor the library building and report facilities issues appropriately.

  • Work with security personnel to maintain a safe environment and report incidents as necessary.

  • Assist patrons with online and budget code payment transactions 

  • Perform opening procedures on weekends 

  • Perform closing procedures and secure the building at the end of each closing shift.

  • Reports to the Library Service Manager in the Library Engagement and User Experience  department.


Minimum Qualifications

  • Ability to work independently

  • Ability to handle multiple requests at once while at a service point

  • Punctuality, reliability, and good communication skills

  • Basic computer skills and ability to learn new software/systems


Preferred Qualifications

  • Library work experience

  • Experience in an academic environment or with health professionals


Work hours: 

Up to 15 hours/week, including evening and weekend shifts. Library hours vary in accordance with the academic calendar, and schedules are set on a semesterly basis. 


Typical physical requirements:

Work is performed in a typical office environment. 

Work requires the stamina to sit or stand for extended periods of time, and requires some walking, bending, and lifting up to 15 pounds. 

Must be able to communicate verbally with library users, both in person and on the phone. 

Must be able to read printed materials and a computer screen.
