Job Title: Media Center Assistant
/Library Aide
Purpose: The Media Center Assistant assists the Media Center Specialist in all phases of media center operation.
Responsible to: Principal and Media Center Specialist
Supervises: NA Qualifications: - High school diploma or equivalent.
- Appropriate License.
- Good employment record, including math and spelling ability tests, interview, references, and previous experience with children.
- Health and Inoculation Certificate on file in the Central Office (after employment offer is made).
- Additional qualifications as the Board of Education may determine appropriate.
- Desire to continue career improvement by enhancing skills and job performance.
Essential Functions: - Ability to assist in facilitating the personal, social, and intellectual development of students.
- Ability to assist in establishing a positive learning environment, and respond to the individual educational needs of students.
- Ability to ensure all activities conforms to Federal\, State, and District guidelines.
- Ability to communicate and work effectively and cooperatively with members of the school district and community.
- Ability to react to change and frequent interruptions in a productive and positive manner, and handle other tasks as assigned.
- Ability to operate all media Center equipment appropriately.
- Ability to approach each task as a challenge to be met successfully.
- Ability to suggest best practices to meet the needs of identified students with staff and administration.
- Ability to work to implement the vision and mission of the school district.
Physical Requirements/Environmental Conditions: - Requires physical exertion to manually move, lift, carry, pull, or push objects or materials.
- Requires standing, stooping, bending, kneeling, reaching, and turning.
- Requires some travel.
- Must occasionally work in noisy and crowded environments with numerous interruptions.
- Ability to effectively and safely restrain a special student as necessary.
- Demonstrate good personal hygiene.
- Ability to be flexible regarding scheduling, working condition, and locations.
- Must possess good judgment.
General responsibilities: - Ability to take directions, learn and implement media center procedures and policies.
- Ability to circulate media center materials and equipment
- Ability to treat each child with respect and firmness. And be responsive to individual educational needs.
- Ability to work with individual students and/or small groups of students in teacher-planned instructional activities.
- Ability to guide a student’s independent study as assigned by teacher, including remedial instruction.
- Ability to assist with the preparation, care and use of instructional materials and equipment.
- Ability to assist with maintaining desirable student behavior and classroom management.
- Ability to assist with supervision of students during the teacher’s temporary absence.
- Restock or shelve media center materials, books, magazines, and equipment.
- Assist community patrons where possible.
- Ability to work with the library media specialist to design, upgrade, and maintain the media center.
- Ability to assist occasionally with clerical duties required.
- Ability to participate in monthly staff development opportunities related to meeting the educational needs of special education student.
- Ability to demonstrate effective interpersonal relationships with others.
- Ability to attend staff and general staff meeting when possible.
- Ability to work effectively with students, teachers, parents, community agencies and other groups.
- Ability to keep student information and records confidential.
- Ability to immediately report accidents, assaults, destruction of property, and abusive behavior to the media center specialist and principal.
- Ability to keep current on new information, innovative ideas and techniques by attending staff development activities and participating in professional growth opportunities.
- Ability to observe and follow all school district policies at all times.
- Ability to respond to information requests in a cooperative, courteous, and timely manner.
- Ability to implement and follow all district health and safety policies, including all precautions of the Bloodborne Pathogens Exposure Control Plan.
- Ability to perform other duties and assume other responsibilities assigned by the media center specialist, teachers an, principal.

Payment Rate: Salary and benefits per Classified Handbook
Evaluation: Performance effectiveness will be evaluated in accordance with Kansas Statutes and Board of Education Policy.
