Job Summary
The University of Texas at Dallas Libraries and Archives are seeking an innovative, collaborative, and service-oriented candidate for the Head of Metadata Services position. With a user-centered mindset, the Head of Metadata Services provides forward-thinking leadership, and is responsible for original and copy cataloging, authority control, and development of standards and policies for resource description. Reporting to the Assistant Director for Technical Services, the Head of Metadata Services will lead the department in the creation and ingestion of metadata that facilitates the discoverability of information resources held locally and globally.
Essential Duties And Responsibilities
Perform original and/or complex copy cataloging and establish authority control. Manage vendor-provided MARC files and work with Acquisition and e-Resources to find the best solution to provide access for purchased electronic contents. Provide leadership and strategic direction to the department and oversee the operations of cataloging and processing of all library resources. Lead the department in the evolution of metadata practices in both MARC and non- MARC formats and ensure compliance with national and local standards. Plan, implement and manage quality control projects and oversee metadata ingestion and database maintenance activities. Analyze workflow, set priorities, and organize procedures to fulfill the libraryβs goals and the Universityβs mission. Recruit, train, and supervise librarians and staff for growth and professional development. Establish and maintain good communication and work relationships with all members of Technical Services, other library departments, and the stakeholders of the University. Participate in continuing education, committee service in the library, and professional engagement activities related to metadata and scholarly resource description.
