Position Summary:
Vanguard University Library seeks a collaborative and adaptable Faculty Librarian who brings both a breadth of knowledge and the ability to contribute meaningfully across multiple areas of library work. This position is ideal for someone who enjoys engaging in varied responsibilities, shifting fluidly between teaching, technology, archives, and patron services based on emerging priorities and personal strengths. The successful candidate will serve the Vanguard community by providing instruction, reference, and research support while also participating in the ongoing stewardship and development of the library's physical and digital collections, including the university archives. This role is a key part of our team-based model that values curiosity, collaboration, initiative, and a commitment to excellence.
Essential Functions:
- Deliver research support and information literacy instruction to undergraduate and graduate students across disciplines.
- Partner with faculty to integrate information literacy and library resources into academic programs.
- Provide leadership or support in multiple functional areas based on the candidate's expertise (e.g., instruction, systems, metadata, access services, outreach, or archives).
- Support the university archives, including access, organization, and outreach efforts related to Vanguard's history and institutional memory.
- Engage with assigned academic departments as a library liaison, supporting resource needs and faculty collaboration.
- Contribute to ongoing efforts to assess and improve library services and collections.
- Participate in reference and research help coverage, including one evening per week and occasional weekends.
- Support university accreditation efforts by providing data and documentation on library contributions to student learning and academic quality.
- Participate in faculty and university committee service.
- Support the mission and vision of Vanguard University and integrate Christian faith into the practice of librarianship.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Master's degree in a relevant field (e.g., Library and Information Science, Education, History, Instructional Design, or a related discipline) from a regionally accredited institution.
- Demonstrated experience providing research support or instruction in an academic or educational setting.
- Ability to contribute meaningfully in at least one area of library practice (e.g., instruction, archives, systems, outreach, access services, metadata).
- Evidence of adaptability, initiative, and the ability to work collaboratively within a team -based environment.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Commitment to supporting the mission, vision, and faith integration goals of Vanguard University as a Christian institution of higher education.
Preferred Qualifications:
- MUS or equivalent library degree from an ALA-accredited program or doctorate in a complementary academic discipline to others within the library te a m.
- Experience working in a college or university library setting.
- Demonstrated ability to teach or design curriculum related to information literacy across modalities.
- Experience with archives management, including digitization, preservation, and institutional sto ryte lling .
- Familiarity with integrated library systems, discovery tools, or emerging educational technologies.
- Evidence of scholarly activity, professional development, or service in the field of librarianship or higher education.
- Complementary expertise (e.g., instructional design, digital humanities, assessment, metadata, or faithοΏ½ integrated teaching) that enhances the capabilities of the existing library team.
- Ability to support accreditation and assessment processes through data collection, analysis, and reporting.
- Familiarity with Vanguard's culture, history, and faith tradition.
Salary:
Full-time position. Rank and salary are commensurate with qualifications and experience. Highly qualified candidates may be considered for an appointment to an endowed professorship with additional compensation.
Assistant Professor: $60,595 to $81,501
Associate Professor: $70,676 to $95,190
Professor: $82,031 to $113,974
Placement at appropriate rank (e.g., Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor) and initial salary is dependent upon education, experience, and based on Vanguard's faculty compensation schedule. The upper range is reserved for candidates that demonstrate the highest level of proficiency within a particular rank. Vanguard University also offers a very competitive and generous benefits package.
Vanguard offers both tenure track and term faculty contracts; the type of contract offered will be determined based on the candidate's qualifications at the time of hire.
