Roosevelt Elementary School is looking for a library assistant effective for the 2025/26 school year. 

 

Floating Library Assistant Role, these duties comprise 90% of the position

  • Communicate with Librarian
  • Categorize and classify library materials
  • Assist with acquisitions including, reviewing orders, budgets, invoices, building needs
  • Assist with conducting local inventory and audits
  • Follow library standards and guidelines when classifying documents.
  • Consider rules of Sears subject heading policies, Dewey Decimal Classification, MARC21 and catalog materials according to established local conventions
  • Ensure all material can be retrieved conveniently using standardized methods.
  • Perform original and copy cataloging and adapt online records according to guidelines in all subject areas and languages.
  • Input details about new material into library catalog.
  • Adjust rules when new types of material surface.
  • Consult with colleagues on improving cataloging process.
  • Determine appropriate treatments for series or multipart items
  • Organize backlogs of materials.
  • Conduct book repair / weeding as needed
  • Run Library Reports and follow up with them
  • Organize materials according to highest priority.
  • Attend conferences and continuing education classes.
  • Serve on library committee.
  • Work alongside librarian, assistants in a variety of locations
  • May work with small groups of students on special projects
  • Shelve Books
  • Occasionally sub in library classes or assist with library programs, special activities, etc.

Possible additional duties, likely no more than 10% of work time

  • Prep materials for, teach classes and/or small groups
  • Make book recommendations to teachers and students
  • Help Run Bookfair
  • Take notes at monthly staff meetings and relay information to Librarian
  • Checkout books to staff and students
  • Assist with students and staff who are using library program or computer databases or otherwise conducting research
  • Suggest and assist with library decorations including bulletin boards and seasonal items
  • Pull books for teachers
