    Summary:       Oversee the library program across the five elementary schools, visiting each school one day a week to deliver instruction. Work collaboratively with the Library Aide/Digital Literacy Teacher to manage daily library operations and ensure the program runs smoothly and effectively.
     
    Job Goal:        Ensure all elementary Libraries have similar book collections that provide(s) varied reading opportunities, and instruct students on all K-6 library standards.
     
     
    General Responsibilities:
    1. Operate and supervise the assigned library(ies), ensuring an organized and welcoming learning environment for all students and staff.
    2. Work collaboratively with the Digital Literacy Teacher to integrate digital literacy and research skills into the curriculum, supporting the overall educational goals.
    3. Instruct students in selecting and using research materials and technology effectively, teaching library skills to K-6th grade students once a week.
    4. Plan, organize, coordinate, and oversee library services, ensuring that the library functions meet the needs of students, teachers, and the school community.

    6. Help students develop independent skills in using reference materials and Library Media Center resources for academic assignments.
    7. Purchase, catalog, and maintain books, materials, and equipment for the library collection; process and circulate library materials; assist students, teachers, and staff in selecting appropriate resources for academic and recreational use.
    8. Ensure students and teachers have access to library materials and resources necessary for classroom assignments, projects, and independent reading.
    9. Foster a love of reading by guiding students to find books and materials that engage their interests and support their academic growth.
    10. Maintain professional competence by participating in ongoing professional growth activities, including conferences, workshops, and professional reading.
    11. Assist teachers in the evaluation, selection, and use of library resources for lesson planning and instructional strategies, particularly for information literacy.
    12. Promote appropriate conduct of students using library facilities by establishing clear behavior expectations and ensuring a respectful, focused environment.
    13. Help students develop skills in independent research and use of digital and print resources in relation to planned assignments.
    14. Attend monthly librarian meetings to collaborate with colleagues, discuss library programming, and stay updated on best practices in library services.
    15. Participate in training related to district and state online assessments and support students and teachers in utilizing library resources for assessments as needed.
    16. Facilitate the exchange of library materials between schools by regularly checking the POSH report and fulfilling holds for inter-school book lending.
    17. Provide reading guidance to students with special needs or unique intellectual interests, supporting their academic and personal growth through tailored reading recommendations.
    18. Collaborate with the school community to develop and implement initiatives that encourage reading and research, such as book fairs, reading challenges, or author visits.
    19. Contribute to the school’s overall curriculum development by providing input into the integration of library resources into various subjects.
    20. Maintain an updated library website or other digital presence for students, parents, and staff to access library resources, reading recommendations, and educational tools.
    21. Perform other duties as assigned by the building principal to support the smooth operation of the school library and meet the needs of the school community.
     
    Qualifications:
     
    • Possess a Bachelor’s Degree in Education (required); advanced degree or progress toward an advanced degree preferred.
    • General knowledge of library science, including collection development, cataloging, and resource management.
    • Experience in instructional design, library management, or educational technology integration preferred.
    • Effective communication skills to collaborate with students, staff, parents, and the broader school community.
    • Strong organizational skills to manage library operations efficiently and effectively.
    • Punctuality and reliability in completing all assignments and duties.
     
    Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:
     
    • Knowledge of library science, including information literacy, research methods, and library management systems.
    • Ability to instruct and manage student behavior effectively in a library setting.
    • Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills for collaborating with students, staff, and parents.

    Physical Requirements:
    • Frequent standing, walking, bending, reaching, kneeling, crouching and lifting books up to 25 pounds.
    • Ability to sit for extended periods while performing tasks such as data entry or reading.
     
    Travel Requirements:
    • Travel between the five elementary schools each week is required. Must possess a valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
