Job Description:

The Digital Technologies Librarian identifies and addresses user needs as they relate to the library’s digital presence. This includes maintaining and updating the library’s website, researching and implementing emerging technologies that enhance information literacy teaching and learning, and collaborating with other librarians and library staff to develop digital learning objects that enhance the accessibility of library and information resources.

 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Essential duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Manage and maintain the library website so it is up to date, responsive and accessible for its primary user group of undergraduate students. 
  • Implement, customize, and integrate web applications for the library website and related platforms (such as LibGuides).
  • Ensure that library web technologies are meeting user needs, as well as library and curricular objectives, through needs assessment, usability testing, analytics, and collaboration with other librarians and campus units.
  • Collaborate with other librarians to design and create digital learning objects that develop information literacy. 
  • Contribute to and initiate special projects that make use of digital technologies to support library use. 
  • Engage in regular, self-directed learning and professional development in order to maintain technological proficiency as well as understand trends impacting libraries and information literacy learning.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Skills

Required:

  • Facility with educational technologies

  • Familiarity with HTML, CSS, and JavaScript

  • Time management and organizational skills 

  • Written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills

  • Critical thinking and problem solving

  • Ability to work effectively independently and as part of a team

Preferred:

  • Proficiency with at least one scripting language

Competencies

Required:

  • Project management

  • Instructional design

Preferred:

  • User experience design

Work Experience

Required:

  • Experience working with cross-functional teams and multiple stakeholders

  • Experience customizing and manipulating digital technologies in a web development or educational context 

Preferred:

  • Experience designing, building, and maintaining websites 

  • Experience working with content management systems, including WordPress and LibGuides

  • Experience working with APIs

  • Teaching or training experience

Education Requirements

Required: Master’s degree or equivalent from an accredited institution.

Preferred: Master’s degree or higher in library science, information science, information technology, instructional design, education, or related field.
