The History & Genealogy Department is seeking a full-time Digital Collections Librarian to assure the quality and efficiency of library digitization projects and overseeing the application of metadata and copyright policy in Digital Collections while providing customer service and supporting the department’s programming and outreach initiatives.

Salary: $59,637.00

Hours:

Monday-Friday

Evenings and weekends required

Essential Responsibilities:

  1.  Manage, maintain, and support the activities of the Library’s digital collections system.
  2. Procure, create, and develop the digital collection for the History and Genealogy Department.
  3. Connect the digital collection, digitization projects, and preservation efforts with the community through various activities and initiatives.
  4. Provides technical assistance and support to library staff and patrons.
  5. Provide reference assistance and support to library staff and patrons in a timely manner.
  6. Other duties as assigned.

Job Qualifications:

  • MLS/MLIS or equivalent degree from an ALA-accredited school
  • Experience with library software and ILS Systems, e.g. OCLC, Polaris, etc. and hardware, e.g., scanners, microfilm readers, projectors, etc.
  • Experience with digital collections and digital collection platforms, such as digital exhibits and/or digital asset management systems
  • Experience with digital repositories (e.g., ContentDM, Omeka, Recollect, etc.)
  • Working knowledge of metadata standards (e.g., Dublin Core, METS, etc.)
  • Demonstrated knowledge of copyright and intellectual property issues in digital collections
  • Experience working with History and Genealogy Collections
  • Familiarity with digitization standards and best practices
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively manage multiple projects of varying size and scope
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • The ability to work independently and within a team environment
  • Experience working with the public
  • Must possess good judgment, analytical, and problem solving skills

Physical and Mental Requirements:

  • Ability to operate a motor vehicle
  • Ability to stand for up to 8 hours per shift
  • Ability to bend to very low shelves or reach to very high shelves when retrieving Library materials
  • Ability to lift a minimum of 25 lbs.
  • Ability to push a full cart of books or other Library materials
  • Ability to complete multiple tasks simultaneously
  • Ability to operate various types of Library equipment
  • Ability to use a pc, word processing, email, and Google Suite
  • Ability to deal sensitively and tactfully with customers and staff
