Reports to: Branch Manager or Supervisor

Supervises: Not a Supervisory Position but provides leadership

Overview: Performs a variety of duties to provide direct service to customers of all ages with a special focus on birth to teen.

Schedule: Monday-Wednesday 9-5, Thursday 12-8, 2 out of 3 Fridays 9-5, 1 out of 3 Saturdays 9-5

Responsibilities/Duties:

  1. Essential Job Functions (All listed responsibilities/duties are considered essential to the position.)
  • Plans, prepares and present children's classes and events
  • Plans and conducts classes for adults on children's topics
  • Presents programs at schools
  • Markets children's collection and services
  • Creates displays
  • Evaluates children's services and makes recommendations to Youth Services Coordinator
  • Maintains and assists in developing children’s collection
  • Locates materials for customers
  • Answers reference and directional questions for customers
  • Demonstrates initiative in assisting customers
  • Promotes library services and activities
  • Instructs customers in use of materials and equipment
  • Trains customers in use of informational computer resources, both one-on-one and in groups
  • Leads and participates in teams as assigned
  • Supports, implements and reports on Strategic Plan initiatives
  • Operates equipment used in connection with job duties
  • Maintains confidentiality of customer and personnel information
  • Conducts tours and library orientations
  • Coaches and trains new employees
  • Collects and accurately accounts for cash receipts
  • Collects and maintains statistics
  • Performs assigned duties at activities outside the library
  • Follows established policies, quality standards, and rules
  • Performs and maintains circulation procedures
  • Performs and maintains reference procedures
  • Performs and maintains interlibrary loan procedures
  • Performs readers advisory service
  • Maintains orderliness of collection and neatness of public and work areas
  1. Special Duties (Employees may or may not be asked to perform any of these duties)
  • Performs duties of librarianin-charge when assigned
  • Supervises volunteers 
  • Performs technical services
  • Fills in for other staff and at other branches as directed
  • Schedules community locations for programs
  • Prepares special reports
  • Orders and maintains program supplies 
  • Attends workshops, seminars and meetings when assigned
  • Performs other duties as related
