    • Summer high school staff will work at South Elgin High School.
    • Two days of professional development are required for summer school. Those dates are June 3, 2024 and June 4, 2024.
    • Summer School begins on June 5 and ends July 3, 2024. Summer school occurs Monday through Friday with no school on June 19, 2024 to celebrate the Juneteenth holiday. Staff must be available on all days during the summer school sessions. Summer staff is expected to be at school 15 minutes prior to the school day and 15 minutes after the school day concludes. Staff will have a 30 minute lunch period. Staff hours: 7:30 am to 1:15 pm Student school day: 7:45 am to 1:00 pm

    Function / Position Summary
    To support all curricular areas for student learning, reading, and instruction and provide information literacy instruction.
     
    Job Duties / Responsibilities
    • Teach the district-approved library and information literacy curriculum.
    • Collaborate with teachers in teaching and assessing how all students utilize information resources.
    • Expose students to a variety of literature and promote a culture of reading in the school community.
    • Promote the integrated use of technology and other resources as learning tools.
    • Provide individual students and staff with reader services and information literacy resources at the moment of need.
    • Administer the library and collection to include collection development (selection and de-selection), cataloging and processing, and circulation of materials
    • Manage and maintain the library facility to meet instructional goals.
    • Prepare appropriate curricular materials for classroom instruction.
    • Participate in the U-46 community to include sharing resources and policy development in implementing the district-approved curriculum.
    • Provide leadership in current best practices and awareness of district curriculum.
    Education
    • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in related subject from a regionally accredited university.
    • Illinois Professional Educator License (PEL) with a High School (9-12), Gr. 6-12 or PK-12 Library Information Specialist or Media endorsement required.
    Experience / Knowledge
    • Knowledge of information literacy and curriculum.
    • Familiarity with a wide range of reading materials and resources for students.
    • Strong interpersonal, collaborative, and instructional skills.
    • Knowledge of MARC records and cataloging standards.
    • Awareness of collection development practices.
    Physical Demands
    • Requires prolonged sitting or standing.
    • Occasionally requires physical exertion to manually move, lift, carry, pull, or push objects or materials up to 30 lbs. with proper technique.
    Terms of Employment
    • This is a temporary position.
    • Salary and benefits as established by the Board of Education.
    • U-46 reserves the right to terminate the position by the third day of student attendance if a minimum number of students do not register or enroll.
