    Job Title: Certified High School Librarian

     

    Reports to: Campus Principal

    Pay Grade: Professional/Instructional Pay Scale

    Primary Purpose:

     

    To provide leadership in the planning, development, and implementation of a school library program that supports teaching and learning; promotes literacy; ensures access to quality information resources; integrates technology; and fosters a culture of inquiry and lifelong learning in accordance with the Texas School Library Standards.

     

     

     

     

     

    Qualifications:

     
    • Valid Texas School Librarian Certificate
       

    • Master’s degree from an accredited institution in Library Science or related field
       

    • Minimum 2 years of classroom teaching experience (preferred)
       

    • Strong knowledge of educational technology, digital resources, and literacy development
       

    • Demonstrated ability to collaborate with staff and engage students
       

     

     

     

     

     

    Major Responsibilities and Duties:

     

    1. Instructional Partner

     
    • Collaborate with teachers to design and deliver curriculum-based instruction.
       

    • Integrate information literacy and digital citizenship skills into all content areas.
       

    • Provide instruction in the ethical use of information, research strategies, and inquiry-based learning.
       

     

    2. Information Specialist

     
    • Curate and manage a balanced, current, and diverse collection in various formats to support academic and personal interests.
       

    • Promote and provide equitable access to physical and digital resources.
       

    • Maintain the library’s digital presence, including web-based catalogs, databases, and virtual learning platforms.
       

     

    3. Program Administrator

     
    • Develop, implement, and evaluate a strategic library program aligned with campus and district goals.
       

    • Manage library budgets, reports, and statistics to ensure effective resource use.
       

    • Supervise library staff, volunteers, and student aides.
       

     

    4. Instructional Leader

     
    • Advocate for literacy and reading engagement across grade levels and disciplines.
       

    • Organize events and programming that promote reading, such as book clubs, author visits, and reading challenges.
       

    • Serve on leadership teams and committees to support campus instructional goals.
       

     

    5. Technology Leader

     
    • Support the integration of instructional technology to enhance teaching and learning.
       

    • Provide training to staff and students on educational tools and platforms.
       

    • Troubleshoot and manage basic tech issues and support device use in the library setting.
       

     

    6. Equity and Inclusion Advocate

     
    • Ensure that library resources reflect and honor diverse voices and perspectives.
       

    • Foster a safe, inclusive, and welcoming environment for all students.
       

    • Engage in culturally responsive collection development and programming.
       

     

     

     

     

     

    Working Conditions:

     
    • Maintain emotional control under stress.
       

    • Frequent standing, stooping, bending, pulling, and pushing.
       

    • Occasional lifting of books and equipment up to 30 lbs.
