The City of Coppell Library Assistant provides friendly and professional circulation services to citizens and clerical support for technical services. The Library Assistant communicates and aids in library policies and procedures.

Provides excellent customer service to residents and library users through good communication, a willingness to assist with customer requests, and the ability to follow through to ensure positive interactions with the public.
Understands and explains library guidelines and procedures; responds to and handles difficult patron inquiries and complaints.
Checks-out/checks-in library materials through the integrated library system (ILS); evaluates materials for damage, sorts materials alphabetically and numerically, and moves materials to and from book drop bins, carts, or shelves.
Accurately collects money by cash, check, or credit card.
Verifies, enters and maintains confidential patron information in the ILS.
Assists patrons both on the telephone and in person with directional and reference questions as well as account information, referring citizens to other staff members as needed.
Performs holds/requests management, including running reports and hold shelf maintenance. Retrieves materials for the hold shelf from the pull list and removes held items from the unclaimed (expired) list as appropriate. ? Receives new materials from vendors by checking against invoices and entering receipts into ILS.
Processes new materials to include wrapping, stamping, and applying labels and security strips; packs, unpacks, and moves boxes; processes items for withdrawal and deletion from ILS. Retrieves, processes, and returns interlibrary loan materials.
Receives, processes, and withdraws magazines and enters them into the ILS, as appropriate.
Sorts and shelves library materials alphabetically and/or numerically by the Dewey Decimal System; searches for lost/missing items; monitors and maintains shelf order.
Performs tasks for the daily opening and closing of the library.
Reads, sends or replies to e-mails on a daily basis.
Assists with set-up for library programs as requested.
Under the direction of a librarian, assists with the presentation of programs, as requested.
Ad Hoc Tasks: Undertakes additional tasks as requested or required to contribute to the overall effectiveness and efficiency of the Community Experiences Department.

Eligibility
Experience
High School Diploma/GED.
1+ year of library experience is preferred.
Municipal library experience, bilingual ability, and/or higher education is preferred.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities
Works effectively as part of a team.
Communicates clearly and professionally, both verbally and in writing, with city staff, citizens, and other individuals using the English language.
Performs multiple tasks simultaneously and adapts to frequent changes in priorities under time pressures.
Utilizes a personal computer and the library’s Integrated Library System (ILS).
Operates a motor vehicle safely for travel within the city and to library-related events.
