The Phillips Academy Music Department seeks a part-time Assistant Music Librarian to join a busy and thriving department. The Assistant Librarian oversees the music library, keyboard and technology labs during the evenings. Students use these spaces to do homework, particularly working with programs like Sibelius and Logic Pro Suite. Knowledge of music notation as well as notation software is highly desirable. The Assistant Music Librarian may have other opportunities to support the music program such as: serving as ensemble librarian, digitizing music library materials, creating advertisement posters, programs, recording concerts on weekends, etc. The Assistant Music Librarian is part of a staff and faculty team, including a Head Librarian and Department Coordinator, and reports to the Department Chair. This is an Academic Year (10-month) position with the possibility of assisting Summer Session.
Essential Duties, Skills and Responsibilities:
• Detail-oriented with excellent organizational, verbal and communication skills
• Ability to support students learning to use Sibelius and similar notation software
• Provide general technical support for computer labs, maintain a relatively quiet working environment for students and monitor building use during evening hours
• Circulate library materials such as books, CDs and scores
• Assist students with instrument rentals, practice room access and borrowing equipment.
• Assist with maintaining sheet music and instrument collections
• Exceptional interpersonal skills for working in a diverse community and working effectively with students, other staff, adjunct instructors and faculty
Possible Opportunities:
• Prepare sheet music for ensembles and concerts, serve as Ensemble Librarian
• Assist with digitization projects of audio recording archives and sheet music libraries
• Record evening/weekend concerts
• Assist with design and creation of advertisements, press releases and programs
Minimum Job Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s degree
• A degree in Music or experience working in a library is preferred.
