1. Be familiar with K-4 curriculum, state standards, library course of study, academic content standards and benchmarks.
2. Integrate curriculum and library course of study within scope and sequence of library program.
3. Collaborate with teachers on curriculum integration and library course of study.
4. Design and implement weekly lesson plan that provides integrated skills for the students. Teach the skills to all students each week.
5. Assist students and staff with locating materials.
6. Develop subject book lists for teachers, students and parents.
7. In collaboration with other assistant librarians, publics an annual comprehensive summer reading list.
8. Provide special collections for classroom use according to teachers’ needs and requests.
9. Assist students with special needs in all aspects of library.
10. Review professional journals and collaborate with staff make appropriate selections for collection.
11. Order books, periodicals, videos and supplies to supplement the curriculum according to budgetary guidelines
12. Process new material by cataloging, adding barcodes, spine labels, stamping, covering, etc.
13. Maintain inventory, mend and repair books.
14. Maintain accurate online catalogs.
15. Responsible for facility operations;
a. Computerized circulation and cataloging systems
b. Send overdue notices and prepare weekly overdue reports
c. Bill for lost materials
d. Prepare detailed year end report for principal.
e. Oversight of patron technology area including internet.
16. Coordinate special programs, i.e. National Library Week. Book Fairs, Preview Night, Right to Read Week.
17. Maintain a positive working relationship with the local public library.
18. Attend monthly elementary assistant library meetings, building staff meetings, and professional development programs.
19. Supervise and train volunteers and student aides.
Other Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Serve as a role model for students in how to conduct themselves as citizens and as responsible, intelligent human beings
2. Help instill in students the belief in and practice of ethical principles and democratic values.
3. Conduct other duties related to the secretary's duties as assigned by the Building Principal
ADDITIONAL WORKING CONDITIONS: 1. Occasional exposure to blood, bodily fluids and tissue.
2. Occasional operation of a vehicle in inclement weather conditions
3. Occasional interaction among unruly children
