The assistant teacher is an integral part of the instructional team. The assistant teacher will work closely with the students and the classroom teacher. They will also be responsible for a wide range of school duties and responsibilities.
QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS: • High School Diploma • An Associate’s degree; or, 48 semester hours (minimum) at an institution of higher education; or, a passing score on the ACT WorkKeys. • Possess a general understanding of the educational system • Strong interpersonal skills as well as written and oral communication skills with exceptional attention to detail are essential (must be a self-starter/self-motivator and energetic) • Ability to effectively communicate with teachers, students, and public
REPORTS TO: Principal and/or his/her Designee
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBLITIES: Duties include but not limited to the following: • Work with other employees in a cooperative and courteous manner at all times • Promote a positive image of the school and district to the public at all times • Contribute through their work to the development and implementation of a successful instructional program • Model good reading, writing, and speaking skills for students • Attend and participate in professional development programs when required • Work directly with students reinforcing skills taught by a certified teacher • Monitor written assignments as students work • When misunderstanding of an assignment is detected, immediate re-teaching/reinforcing will be provided • Work with students individually or in small or large groups when directed • Serve as a resource person in curriculum, organization, and student evaluation • Assist the supervising teacher with resource files, student unit packets, etc. • Serve as proctor among students at any time under supervision of a certified teacher • Any other duties as assigned by the Principal
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: ? FSLA Status: Non-exempt ? “At-Will” position ? To be employed 180 days per year ? Salary is established by Board policyEVALUATION: Performance in this position will be evaluated by the principal annually in accordance with provisions of the Board's policies on evaluation
