Anticipated School Librarian

BASIC FUNCTION

The primary function of the elementary librarian is to plan and implement the program of library instruction for the elementary grades in the most efficient manner.

PRINCIPAL ACTIVITIES

 The elementary librarian shall:

• Implement the programs of library instruction in all assigned libraries.
• Provide structured listening experiences with specific lessons.
• Select, requisition, classify, catalog, process, and organize library materials.
• Develop a comprehensive and efficient system for cataloguing all library materials.
• Act as a resource consultant for teachers and students
• Assemble reserve book collections for classroom and/or library use.
• Maintain records of library statistics for circulations, acquisitions, withdrawals, etc. for all assigned libraries.
• Assure completion of a yearly inventory in all assigned elementary libraries.
• Develop a schedule of library instructional periods for all assigned libraries
• Maintain a collection of professional material for all assigned libraries.
• Develop and oversee circulation procedures for student and teacher use of library materials.
• Check-in and shelve returned library materials.
• Maintain a record of and give notice to students and teachers who have overdue materials.
• Develop a budget and monitor the expenditures for all assigned libraries.
• Notify teachers of new materials.
• Promote appropriate conduct of students who are using library facilities.
• Assist students in the selection of books and reference materials according to their reading abilities.
• Remove obsolete and worn materials from the collection.
