POSITION:  Library Assistant – Group II

 

LOCATION:  Morgan Middle School - 7hr - 190 days

 

REPORTS TO:   Building Vice Principal/Principal

 

JOB SUMMARY: Ensure efficient operation of the Library Media Center for the maximum benefit of students and staff.

 

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: 

 

  • Processing of new materials:
    • Clears invoices on shipments
    • Prepares new materials for circulation
    • Enters data in computer, including original cataloging when necessary
  • Maintains routine operation of Library Media Center:
    • Works circulation desk whenever necessary
    • Reads shelves (checking correct shelving of materials)
    • Shelves library media materials
    • Mends circulating materials
    • Maintains the inventory of all media and equipment, as needed
    • Disperses equipment and supplies, as needed
  • Assists students and staff:
    • Helps students and staff in the use of A.V. equipment, computer, reference resources, and all library media materials
    • Helps students and staff locate library media materials
  • Supervises all students in Library Media Center in a safe and caring environment
  • Maintain regular communication with teaching and administrative staff regarding student behavior and progress on classroom learning tasks

 

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

 

  • New applicants and current employees out of classification:
  • AA (or higher) degree or completion of 2 years of secondary education

         (72 quarter credits or 48 semester credits) or ETS ParaPro Test with a score of at least 455.

  • Must qualify to work in the proximity of children under the conditions of a WSP/FBI background check.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

 

  • Knowledge of standard library organization (Dewey Decimal classification, Use of Library-related software)
  • Ability to use standard reference materials (encyclopedias, almanacs, atlases, etc.)
  • Ability to use multimedia resources (such as computer, CD-ROM, internet, etc.)
  • Ability to use computers as a production tool (desktop publishing, graphics, multimedia authoring)
  • Ability to work with individuals, small groups and whole classes
  • Ability to assist students with study and organizational skills
  • Bilingual skills preferred
