Required Qualifications:
1. Valid Washington State teacher's certificate with endorsement in Library Media

Preferred Qualifications:
Experience developing and implementing literacy and research skills curricula for young learners.
Knowledge of children’s literature and current trends in publishing for elementary students.
Demonstrated ability to collaborate with classroom teachers to support curriculum and student learning.
Familiarity with Washington State’s Learning Standards and AASL Standards Framework for Learners, and ability to integrate into relevant and engaging lessons.
Proficiency with library management systems (e.g. Destiny) and educational tech tools.
Ability to manage library operations, including collection development, budgeting, and inventory.
Strong skills in digital citizenship instruction, media literacy, and integrating technology.
Passion for fostering a love of reading and inquiry in young students.
Effective classroom management and supervision during flexible and fixed library schedules.
Enthusiasm for organizing and leading reading promotions (e.g. book fairs, author visits, reading challenges).
Commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion in book selection and library programming.
Job Description:
1. Motivates and inspires the reading of children’s literature through a variety of activities.
2. Works with individual and small groups on information skills, reference work, book selection, and other independent activities.
3. Organizes and promotes interest areas within the center.
4. Teaches units of information skills.
5. Demonstrates the proper use of technology in the instructional process.
6. Develops a climate that encourages students to take full advantage of the resource center and keeps faculty and students informed about new books, materials, equipment, and services.
7. Oversees computer needs/problems and communicates those technology needs to district tech support.
8. Plans and administers the school curriculum program as defined below:
a. Selects print and non-print materials that are of interest and motivating to its users.
b. Selects the best available print and non-print materials to supplement the school’s curriculum.
c. Supervises the cataloging and/or processing of all incoming materials to ensure maximum availability promptly.
d. Evaluates the collection of materials annually.
9. Consults with staff to plan for maximum center utilization.
10. Supervises and trains library helpers, i.e., paraeducators, secretaries, parents, students, and volunteers.
11. Prepares and monitors library budget and reports.
12. Utilizes the latest technology to circulate and manage library/media materials.
13. Provide support for reading instruction if needed.
14. Conducts yearly inventory.
15. Other duties as assigned.

Lifting: The employee must be able to lift or move up to 10 lbs. regularly and occasionally up to 26 lbs; must also be able to lift overhead. The employee may be required to physically move quickly in an emergency or while performing student supervision duties.

Physical Hazards: While performing the duties of this job, the employee must be able to work outdoors in a wide variety of temperatures; from -10 degrees F to 100 degrees F +. The employee may be exposed to wet and/or humid conditions. The noise level in this work environment is moderate.
Application Procedure: In-District staff must complete an internal online application by 10:00 p.m. (PST) on or before the closing date. In-building/In-district staff will have eight school days, or eight working days during the summer to apply for a vacant position through the online application system. The employee may choose but will not be required to meet with the building administrator to understand the building practices, procedures and initiatives specific to the position to which they are applying. After eight days if an in-building employee is qualified for the position, the principal will offer the employee the position. In the case that more than one in-building employee is interested in a position, the position will be offered to the qualified and senior employee. If a position is not filled in-building after the eight day period, the position will be offered to the qualified, most senior in-district applicant, if any. Teachers with a summative evaluation score of 1 or 2 are not eligible to transfer unless agreed upon by the District and Association.
