Ministerial Expectations and Purposes The teacher is considered a ministerial employee by their role working in a Catholic School and agree to work diligently to support and strengthen the Catholic Church and its value system. Essential Functions Under the direct supervision of a licensed staff member, the Librarian will collaborate with licensed professional staff to enrich lessons using available text and media supports, and will:
Serve as a positive role model of the Catholic faith is his / her words, deeds, demeanor, dress, and actions both within and outside the classroom.
Assist and guides students to reinforce reading, language arts, religion, mathematics, computer instruction, and other skills.
Assist teachers in integrating religious studies concepts throughout the curriculum.
Work with students individually and in small groups to reinforce basic learning and to implement assigned programs.
Assist in classroom preparations and in developing strategies for reinforcing instructional materials and skills according to individual student needs.
Follow all applicable safety rules, procedures and regulations governing the proper manner of assistance for all students, including those with disabilities or other special needs.
Collaborate with teachers to plan and deliver technology-rich lessons.
Perform expected duties of a school librarian, including, but not limited to: designing procedures for material checkout, teaching of basic research procedures, reading to student groups, reinforcing a love for literature and reading.
Consult with staff and students regarding media resources applicable to assigned student projects or activities.
Reinforce the love of reading and literature to all with whom he or she interacts.
Understand and adheres to tenets and teachings of the Roman Catholic Church.
Maintain a lifestyle that is in full accord with Church teachings, both within and outside of the school environment.
Additional Duties Performs other related tasks as assigned by the Principal and/or Catholic Schools Office administrators as designated by the Superintendent of Catholic Schools.
Equipment Uses standard office equipment such as SMARTboards, document cameras, personal computers, printers, copiers, fax machines, and phones.
Travel Requirements Travel to school district buildings and professional meetings as required.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Ability to carry out instructions furnished in written or oral form.
Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide, and to perform arithmetic operations as needed to assist students.
Ability to understand, apply and use personal computers and software applications (e.g., Word, Excel).
Ability to work with a diverse group of individuals.
Ability to maintain confidentiality of information regarding students, employees and others.
Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with students, staff, and others contacted in the course of work.
Ability to report work orally or in writing to supervisor as required.
Effective writing and verbal communication skills.
Ability to consistently report to work on days and at times established by the school Principal.
Ability to enhance lessons using available technology.
Ability to communicate with all constituents including (but not limited to); school administration, pastors, parish priests, colleagues, students, parents, and prospective parents.
Physical and Mental Demands, Work Hazards
While performing the duties of this job, the employee may frequently be required to sit, stand, walk, talk, hear, see, feel with hands, reach with arms, walk up or down multiple flights of stairs, and be physically able to perform duties as assigned, including the ability to lift up to 20-30 pounds if needed.
Works in standard office and school building environments but also has ability to work outdoors during outdoor student activities.
Qualifications Profile Certification/Licensure A current Illinois Professional Educator License (PEL) is preferred. A Library Information Specialist endorsement is a plus; endorsements in science, technology, engineering, art or mathematics are also a plus.
Education A bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in a related discipline is preferred.
Experience
Previous successful library experience is desired.
Excellent organizational and communication skills are essential to success.
Hourly compensation will be in accordance with licensure and experience as per Diocesan Paraprofessional Guidelines.
Work Schedule This is a part-time, unbenefited position. The Librarian will work as per a schedule developed by the Principal. Work hours will not exceed 29 hours per week.
