Our Shannon Staub Library branch has an opportunity for a Youth Services Librarian. In this role you will coordinate Youth Services programs/projects for youth ages 0-18 with a focus on Tweens, Teens and their families. Other responsibilities include teaching and coaching staff, volunteers and citizens, as well as providing customer service and coordinating collections. While the primary focus will be leadership in Youth Services, the librarian will also work with youth and adults in intergenerational programming. In the team environment, employees will participate in setting unit, library, and system goals, contribute to decision making and evaluation of progress. About the Position

In this role you will coordinate Youth Services programs/project for youth ages 0-18 with a focus on Tween, Teens, and their families. Examples of job responsibilities can include:

  • Present individual and group training programs for public and staff in the use of the library, its technology/equipment, and resources. 

  • Serve as a general reference in assisting customers by locating answers to questions, including Interlibrary Loan services and referral to agencies outside the library. 

  • Assist, lead, develop, implement, and/or evaluate special projects, services, and library programs. 

  • Maintain awareness of literature related to current best practices and future trends. 

  • Participate in presentations and the development of technology training and information literacy programs for both staff and patrons. 

  • Plan and direct library programming for adults, young adults, and children, in coordination with other library professionals at the library and throughout the library system. 

  • Initiate, design, facilitate and evaluate education and literacy programs; collaborating on activities and programs related to identified branch and community goals with an emphasis on STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Math).

  • Assist in the planning and implementation of library makerspace technology at the library; assist in the creation, organization, and maintenance of library’s makerspace; and provide makerspace programming and instruction. 

  • Collaborate with internal core services to manage operational issues, support community goals and form strategic partnerships. 

  • Participate in business planning, staff planning, and budget development. 

  • Assist and participate in the selection, supervision, and training of library staff and volunteers as needed. 

  • Encourage staff and volunteers to use their individual talents creatively to address tasks. 

 

About the Schedule

Work Hours:

  • Full-Time, 40 Hours Per Week.

  • Employees must be available Monday - Sunday, 8:00 a.m. - 8:00 p.m.

  • Work schedules may vary due to split shifts, rotations, on-call, emergencies, etc.

  • Employees may be re-assigned to a different work location (other than original assignment) within the library system to meet changing service needs.

This locations hours of operation:

  • Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday: 10:00 a.m. - 8:00 p.m.

  • Wednesday: 10:00 a.m. - 6:00 p.m.

  • Friday and Saturday: 10:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.

  • Currently this location is not open on Sundays. This is subject to change in the future, based upon business needs.

About You 

Minimum Qualifications: 

  • Master's degree in Library Science from a college or university accredited by the American Library Association (ALA) or the Chartered Institute of Library and Information Science Professionals (CILIP)

  • - OR - Bachelor’s degree and enrolled in an MLS/MLIS program with the ability to obtain an MLS/MLIS within twelve (12) months of hire

  • Valid Florida Driver's License by date of hire

  • One year of experience in a library environment

  • Bilingual in Spanish

  • Experience working with youth (0-18 years of age), as well as their families

 

Subject to Passing Substance Screening:  This position is subject to passing a pre-employment substance screening.  An applicant who fails to pass a required drug screening test shall be disqualified from employment in any class for a period of five (5) years. 

 

About Everything Else 

Starting Pay: $52,936.00
