We are seeking an enthusiastic and dynamic individual to join our team as a Youth Services Librarian at Warren-Trumbull County Public Library. In this role, you will provide exceptional library services for children, while fostering a love of reading and learning. The ideal candidate will be passionate about working with youth, promoting literacy, and creating an engaging, inclusive, and welcoming environment for all patrons.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:


  • Plans, prepares and presents regular story times, summer reading activities, and special programs in cooperation with other Children's Department staff and Branch Services Department staff.
  • Presents information about library services and programs to individuals and groups.
  • Develops and prepares displays, and decorations for children’s areas.
  • Provides reference and readers advisory service to adult and juvenile customers.
  • Participates in outreach activities as assigned.
  • Assists in the preparation of bibliographies, fliers, and various library-finding aids.
  • Purchases a variety of children’s materials, including books, magazines, audiovisual materials, and toys/games.
  • Assists with collection maintenance through inventory, evaluation, and weeding.
  • Maintains a working knowledge of materials collections and trends in children's literature and youth services and the profession through in-service workshops, meetings, conferences, professional literature and organizational memberships.


QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS: 

Master’s Degree in Library Science (MLS/MLIS) from an ALA-accredited institution.  Experience working with children in a library or educational setting is highly preferred.  Knowledge of child development, as well as youth programming best practices.  Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to connect with diverse groups of people.  Familiarity with current library technologies, including digital resources, social media platforms, and library management systems.  Ability to work both independently and as part of a collaborative team.  Flexibility and creativity in developing and delivering programs and services.  Valid Ohio driver’s license.  Please refer to the Core Competencies for Library Staff on the library’s website, www.wtcpl.org.
