Position Description

Seattle University’s Lemieux Library and McGoldrick Learning Commons has an exciting opportunity for a full-time, three-month appointment for a Temporary Assistant Librarian to join our Research Services team.  The appointment period would begin on September 1st, 2024 through December 31st, 2024.  This role provides essential strategic and operational support for the Lemieux Library and McGoldrick Learning Commons’ Research Services Department, covering a sabbatical assignment. The position reports to the interim Director, Research Services. Library faculty appointment will be at appropriate rank, based on experience and service.

As a member of the Research Services team, we are seeking candidates who bring education, experience, or aptitude that enable them to serve as a temporary liaison to academic departments and programs on campus.  The Temporary Assistant Librarian will fully participate in our evolving Research Services model as well as provide research consultations, participate in chat services, assist with collection development projects, develop LibGuides, and assist with other related public services. Responsibilities will also include teaching information literacy sessions, with an emphasis on providing information literacy support for the University’s Core Curriculum and specialized support for upper division and graduate students, with select humanities and social sciences disciplines to be determined.

This is an on-site position, with a Monday to Friday workweek and occasional evening or weekend hours.  

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements

  • MLS from an ALA-accredited program or non-U.S. equivalent.
  • Professional experience providing research/reference services, information literacy instruction, collection development, and/or outreach services. 
  • Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion and antiracism with experience working with diverse populations. 
  • Demonstrated knowledge of current professional trends, especially those relating to research services, collection development, and instructional services.
  • Commitment to contributing to a supportive, collegial work environment.
  • Experience in solving problems independently and collaboratively.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills.
  • Willingness to accept and support the mission of Seattle University and its commitment to the vision and values of Jesuit and Catholic higher education.

Preferred Requirements:

  •  Experience working with faculty and students with humanities and/or social science research methodologies  
  • Demonstrated proficiency with contemporary and emerging information technologies. 
  • Demonstrated ability to manage projects in a library, academic, or information environment. 
  • Demonstrated commitment to research, scholarly publication, professional development and service activities in areas appropriate to academic librarianship and the disciplines served.

    Compensation at a Glance:

    Overall Pay Range: $55,000 to $60,000 base salary prorated to the appointment term, and depending on rank and experience at hire. Seattle University has provided a compensation range that represents its good faith estimate of what the University may pay for the position at the time of posting. The salary offered to the selected candidate will be determined based on factors such as the qualifications of the selected candidate, departmental budget availability, internal salary equity considerations, and available market information, and not based on a candidate’s gender or any other protected status.
