Technical Services Librarian (4460)
Description
The technical services librarian is responsible for the management and administration of technical services processes to ensure efficient and accurate access to the Law Library’s resources. The technical services librarian also provides reference service daily as well as other departmental service activities and projects.
Responsibilities
The primary responsibilities of the technical services librarian are:
- Manage the creation, editing, updating, and enhancement of catalog, authority, acquisitions, and serials records for the law library’s collection, including electronic resources
- Manage database record maintenance and authority control, including accuracy of information in the integrated library system
- Manage the organization of the physical collection
- Work with vendors to resolve problems related to purchases, including standing orders and claims
- In consultation with the director and other staff, plan for and participate in occasional or special projects related to collection access and management, including but not limited to inventory and stack maintenance
- Maintain the acquisitions system and verify receipt of materials listed on invoices
- Establish workflows, procedures, and documentation for technical services
- Manage the process for withdrawing deselected items and auction
- Manage the process for the binding of the Court Index
- Provide collection-related statistics and technical services-related reports
- Serve on the reference team, participating in the reference desk daily rotation and providing in-person, phone, and email reference service;
- Other projects as directed by the Law Librarian
Requirements
- Must be able to lift heavy books and boxes
- Must be able to work independently, with minimal oversight
- Excellent written and verbal communication
Qualifications
Required:
- MLS or MLIS from an ALA-accredited program or currently enrolled MLS/MLIS student with degree expected within 1 year
- A minimum of six months of relevant technical services library experience including cataloging, serials, and acquisitions
- Demonstrated knowledge of cataloging standards and serials control and emerging trends, technologies, and standards
- Strong customer service and team orientation
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
- Excellent organizational and analytical skills
- Demonstrated experience with standard library and office computer applications and systems
Preferred:
- Recent, relevant experience working in a law library
- Experience with legal research databases such as LexisNexis or Westlaw
- Experience with SirsiDynix products
Salary: Varies based on experience
