Job Summary
The Systems Librarian provides expertise in application administration related to library systems, technologies, interoperability, and software that increase and enhance access to academic resources at McConnell Library, with a strong emphasis on collaborative working relationships. The individual in this position is responsible for application administration, evaluation, coordination, and trouble-shooting of library specific technologies. The individual resolves problems, including but not limited to the following applications: WorldShare Management Services ( WMS ); ILLiad; EBSCO Discovery Service ( EDS ), and EZproxy. Duties include: WorldShare Management Services ( WMS ) Administrator: trouble-shoot, manage system configurations and changes, permissions, upgrade notifications, and liaison with OCLC support services, and OCLC development team as needed. ILLiad Administrator: Load and configure new releases, patches, security hotfixes; manage user accounts/permissions and remote access; edit custom ASP scripts and web pages; serve as primary technical contact and liaison with Atlas Systems; arrange for new product and maintenance orders. Regularly coordinate all ILLiad initiatives with the Interlibrary Loan staff in Access Services. EZproxy Application Administrator: Patch, configure, upgrade EZproxy application. Handle technical configuration changes, authorizations, restrictions. Assist Collection and Technical Services staff with e-resources configurations and trouble-shooting. Collaborate with Division of Information Technology staff on authentication issues. Primary EBSCO Discovery Service ( EDS ) Administrator, trouble-shoot application level issues, and liaison with EBSCO’s support services. Collaborate with Collection and Technical Services, Research Help staff, and Division of Information Technology staff, in assuring comprehensive access to all library e-resources. Manages and documents configuration for interoperability with other library services using OAI - PMH and search protocols such as Z39.50 and with other internal services such as LDAP , Shibboleth, or institutional single-sign-on. Working with other library staff, leads the technical analysis and testing of prospective new library and archival services (including digitization) and databases, and develops recommendations for future technologies. The Systems Librarian reports to the Head of Collection and Technical Services, and works with all library departments.
Required Qualifications
Understanding of access issues associated with electronic resources; knowledge and understanding of electronic publishing; working knowledge of bibliographic and metadata tools (e.g., MARC , BIBFRAME , Dublin Core, EAD , Open URL , link resolvers, knowledge bases). Demonstrated ability to manage technical projects within an academic library setting and knowledge of academic libraries and their patrons. Extensive experience in administering and managing library service platforms (LSPs) and related interoperable software, e.g. discovery service, interlibrary loan system, access and authentication system, or other systems as needed. Working knowledge of existing and emerging library and electronic resources trends, standards, protocols, and codes of practice, including, but not limited to transfer protocols, OpenURL, and KBART Excellent written and oral communication skills. Proven ability to diplomatically establish and maintain cooperative working relationships that foster a productive environment for problem-solving and project completion.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with administering and trouble-shooting WorldShare Management Services ( WMS ) LSP . Evidence of interest and ability in applying innovative technologies and creative problem-solving to enhance library services. Familiarity with network and systems administration across multiple operating systems including Windows and Unix-based proprietary and open source systems. Demonstrated success in collaborating with or teaching technology to diverse colleagues. Ability to work independently or in a team.
