Library Media Specialist

The Library Media Specialist position is responsible for ensuring that students and staff are effective users of ideas and information technology.  

 

Qualifications:

  • Associate Degree from an accredited college or university; or Bachelor's Degree preferred;
  • Ability to work effectively with teachers, support staff, and parents and advocate for children to problem-solve effectively;
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills and ability to work with all stakeholders;
  • Belief in the commitment to increasing personal growth, both academic and social-emotional, to obtain the highest level of achievement for every student;
  • Knowledge of DESE Digital Literacy and Computer Science Standards;
  • Knowledge of library management systems.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

 The Library Tech - Paraprofessional will;

  • Assist students with accessing web-based reading and math interventions; 
  • Catalog materials to facilitate the effective retrieval of information; 
  • Assist staff with accessing student progress data on web-based interventions;
  • Monitors student behavior as outlined in the Acceptable Use Policies (AUP);
  • Provide guidance, communicate high expectations, and show an active interest in student progress; 
  • Facilitate critical thinking, problem-solving, and creativity

Evaluated by:    Principal/Assistant Principal

 

Terms of Employment/Salary/Work Year:

As negotiated by the Fitchburg School Committee and the Fitchburg Education Association (FEA).
